5. Main Product Revision
It includes revision of the designed teaching strategies as suggested by the Preliminary Field Testing result. The revision and improvement of the designed
would be conducted on the basis of Preliminary Field Testing results.
B. Research Participants
The research participants of the research were stated based on the steps followed. Those were:
1. Participants in Research and Information Gathering
The participants in Research in Information Gathering was the number of
students in SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta grade X and the English teacher who
teaches grade X students of SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta I chose grade X students of SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta as the participant
in this study because of the two main reasons. Those were: a.
They were in the lower grade. It meant that they did not have much experience in reading comprehension and writing activities compared with
students in the higher grade. Since they were in the lower grade, it was possible for them to have much more reading and writing problems.
b. Since they were in the lower grade, it was very important for them to
know their problems of reading comprehension and writing as early as possible so that they could anticipate it and overcome it to get more
benefits when doing reading comprehension activity and mastering other
skills especially writing. The higher the students, the more experience of reading and writing they will get.
In this step, I conduct an interview with the English teacher to get some information about the students’ problems in reading comprehension which gives
bad impact on the students’ writing proficiency, the students characters, the students ability, the previous teaching strategy that was used by the teacher, and
the classroom activities for reading and writing class.
2. Participants in Preliminary Testing
In Preliminary Testing, the research participants were two English teachers of grade X students of SMA 11 Yogyakarta and one English lecturer of Sanata
Dharma Yogyakarta. Those participants would evaluate the design teaching strategies by giving opinions, comments, and suggestions.
C. Data Gathering Technique
There were two kinds of data gathered in this study. They were the data of target needs and of the designed teaching strategies evaluation. The data of target
needs was gathered by conducting an interview with the English teacher of SMA Negeri 11 Yogyakarta
grade X. This interview was used to obtain the data about the learners’ and teacher’s lack and need, the teaching strategies used by the
teacher for teaching reading and writing and the classroom activities.
