Many organizations are subject to regulations that require the retention of information for a specified period: ■ Sarbanes Oxley: – Applies to all publicly traded corporations or companies that may become public – Audit-related working papers, communications, and correspondence must be retained for five years after the audit ■ Government organizations: DoD 5015.2, General Records Schedule ■ Pharmaceuticalhealth care industry: HIPAA, FDA regulations ■ Financial services: SEC Rule 17a ■ Telecommunications industry: 47 CFR 42, and so on
