CHAPTER 5 CONCLUSIONS, IMPLICATIONS, AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter consists of three parts. The first part concerns the conclusions of the analysis of the problem formulation. The second part concerns the
implications in an education field. The third part concerns suggestions for the future researchers in teaching the English language using literary works.
5.1 Conclusions
Based on the analysis, Firdaus is described as an independent woman. Although men dominate many aspects in the country, she can live without a man.
Even, she does not marry. She earns her money from her job as a prostitute. She is also optimistic. She does not see life based on the failure and bad luck that she
faces. She expects to have a better life than other women. Being treated badly by men makes her hate them very much. Since Firdaus is afraid of them, she cannot
do anything when men treated her badly. This hatred makes her revengeful. She is also a smart girl. She gets good marks at her school. She loves reading many
books. She is quite diligent. That is why she graduates from her school with the best mark.
The experiences that Firdaus has with men change her perception about men. She thinks that she can do nothing to rebel against men’s authority. Raping,
abusing and oppressing are usual things which are done by them. She cannot break the rule because she is a common woman from the lower class. Therefore,

she keeps silent when some men rape her and even hit her hardly without any reason.
Men who come in Firdaus’ life are the same. What they do to Firdaus is just to make use of her body. They make use of their status and job to have sex
with her. Since men have a higher status than women, they seem able to abuse her without worrying about the law. Moreover, if a man has a job, such as a police
officer. In fact, they do abuse her. That is why she perceives that men are abusers, rapists, oppressors, and liars. She also perceives that men control many things.
They have their full right. On the contrary, women do not have any right. A woman cannot do something without a husband’s permission. However, Firdaus
thinks that men and women should have the same right. Men should not treat women as they like. Women should have the same right to men in deciding things,
such as working outside the house and studying at school. The conclusion of this study is that society brings an important effect to
Firdaus’ character. Seeing the fact that men treat women badly makes her perceive that women should not treated like that. Since her childhood, Firdaus sees her
father treat her mother badly many times. First, she thinks that it is fine for a husband to do that because he is the head of a household. However, when it
happens repeatedly, she changes her idea about it. It creates her bad perception about men for the first time. This kind of bad perception continues until she is
adult. She is treated badly because she is a woman from the lower class. Those experiences make her perceive that most men are abusers, rapists, oppressors, and
liars. She does not want to be controlled by men. She does not want to live under
