49 of the articles tended to keep using English terms and mixing the English words
with Indonesian words in order to build good relation with the target reader. Intra- word code-switching was employed by the writers in this situation. The researcher
found a number of cases related to this reason for code-switching. They were
men-download, meng-install, hardware-nya, feature-nya, di-recharge, and mem-posting. The writers of the articles tended to use and mix those words rather
than translate them.
3. Quoting Somebody
This reason was proposed by Hoffman 1991. In some cases, code- switching was employed when the writers were quoting somebody in order to
improve reliability of the news that they write. In this research, the researcher found that the writers of the articles switch the code when they were quoting
somebody’s expression, since it was impossible to translate somebody’s expression to other languages. The researcher provided some examples of
quotation written in the articles. 1

4. Perceived Social and Cultural Distance
For this reason, the researcher could not find any data which showed relation with the reason.

5. Being Emphatic About Something
For this reason, the researcher also could not find any data which showed relation with the reason.
From the discussion of theoretical reasons for code-switching, the researcher concluded that there were three theoretical reasons why the writers of
the magazine switched the code from Indonesian into English. They were talking about particular topic, to build a good relation with the target readers, and quoting
somebody.
B. Other Findings
From the data analyzed, the researcher found some findings beside the discussion of two research questions. According to Cook 1991 as cited by Skiba
1997 code-switching can be used to help the process of language learning. It only occurred if the code-switching cases provide the right example. However, in
this research the researcher found that there were some mistakes in spelling the code-switching words. It meant that some of code-switching cases provided
wrong examples of English words which might guide the readers into the wrong concept. There were some mistakes in writing the English words which were
found. 1
