Descriptive Qualitative Data Analysis

4.1.1.1 Descriptive statistic

In the descriptive statistics, the researcher tries to find out the mean, range, and standard deviation in order to summarize and to describe the characteristics of the three variables. The mean, range variance and the standard deviation of the three variables are shown as the following. 4.1.1.1.1 The students’ metacognitive learning strategy The data of the students’ metacognitive learning strategy were taken from their responses to ten items of the meatcognitive learning strategy questionnaire. The data were used to find out the mean, range variance, and standard deviation of the students’ metacognitive learning strategy. The data can be seen in the following table. Table 4.1 Descriptive Statistics of the Metacognitive Learning Strategy In the table above, the results of the data analysis show that the observed mean is 34.75, the standard deviation is 4.111 and the range is 19. This means that the group is heterogeneous. These results are supported by the frequency chart of the metacognitive learning strategy as shown in the following Figure. The frequency chart of the metacognitive learning strategy is used to see how many students who mostly get the lowest scores to the highest scores in the degree of the strategy. The frequency can be seen in the following. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI Figure 4.1 The Frequency of the Metacognitive Learning Strategy Scores The Figure 4.1 shows the frequency of the metacognitive learning strategy used by the students of SMAN 1 Depok from 0 to 6 and their scores from 26 to 45. The results show that the students who get the scores from 26 to 30 are in the lowest frequency that is in the frequency 1. The other result shown is that the score 33 is the highest frequency which is in the frequency 6 followed by the score 35 in the frequency 5. The additional results show that the highest scores from 40 to 45 are in the lowest frequency that is in the frequency 1. 4.1.1.1.2 The students’ vocabulary mastery The data of the students’ vocabulary mastery were obtained from the students’ responses to the fifty items of a test in a multiple choices. The data were used to find out the mean, range variance and the standard deviation of the students’ vocabulary mastery. The data can be seen in the following table. Table 4.2 Descriptive Statistics of the Vocabulary Mastery In the table, the results of the data analysis show that the observed mean is 69.28, the standard deviation is 16.33 and the range is 59. This means that the group is heterogeneous. These results are supported by the frequency chart of the vocabulary mastery as shown in the following Figure. The frequency chart of the vocabulary mastery is used to see how many students who mostly get the lowest scores to the highest scores. The frequency can be seen in the Figure 4.2 below. Figure 4.2 The frequency of the Vocabulary Mastery Scores The Figure 4.2 shows the frequency of the vocabulary mastery used by the students of SMAN 1 Depok from 0 to 5 and their scores from 41 to 100. The results show that the students who got the scores 41, 50, 65, 79 and 91 are in the
