CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter summarizes the findings of the research and presents their limitations. Moreover, this section also presents recommendations for future
research and current practice.
A. Conclusions
After having investigated and analyzed the data as presented in Chapter IV Research Results and Discussion, the researcher came to the conclusion part.
There were two research problems needed to be answered through this research as formulated in Chapter I. The first research problem aimed to find out types of
swear words found in 21
st
Jump Street movie. The second research problem was devoted to find out what were the reasons of 21
st
Jump Street main characters to swear.
There were six types of swearing which were employed by the main characters in the 21
st
Jump Street movie. Those were cursing, profanity, blasphemy, taboo or obscenity, insult and slurs and scatology. From the findings
of the types of swear words, Jenko and Schmidt as the main characters of 21
st
Jump Street movie, prefer using taboo or obscenity as swearing expressions to using another types of swearing.
There were three motives for swearing which were found in 21
st
Jump Street movie. The first one was psychological motive pm, the second one was
44 social motive sm, and the last was linguistic motive lm. Based on the findings
in Chapter IV, it could be seen that Psychological Motive PM was the most influential motive reason for the main characters to swear. It meant that almost
all of swear words that was uttered by Jenko and Schmidt in 21
st
Jump Street were mostly influenced by their feeling and their expressions of something that
happened to them.
B. Recommendations
After finishing this study, the researcher has some recommendations. The recommendations are addressed to English Language Education Study Program
teachers, English Language Education Study Program students, and future researchers.
1. ELESP Lecturers
The English Language Education Study Programs of Sanata Dharma University has a subject named Sociolinguistic. The course focuses on studying
linguistic that have relation to social issues like politeness, gender, code- switching, etc. The course does not include anything that has relation to
impoliteness. The researcher expects that ELESP teachers not only discuss about politeness, but also impoliteness. The researcher thinks that it will be useful for
ELESP students if they want to go abroad because if they go abroad, there will be many new vocabulary for them includes swear words, so they can understand
about what people say and communicate effectively.
