F. Research Procedure
To answer the research questions, the writer had undergone the systemic research procedure. This section described the several steps of finalizing this
research. There were six steps that had done by the researcher. Those steps were deciding a problem, reviewing related literature, making table of analysis,
deciding data source and identifying the data, interpreting the data, and reporting result.
1. Deciding Problem
In this step, the researcher selected a problem to investigate. Since swear words were viral, the researcher wandered about why people swear. Related to
27 this phenomenon, this study wanted to investigate what types of swear words and
why people swear. 2.
Reviewing Related Literature The following step was finding out related literature to the problem which
was investigated. This step aimed to gain more understanding and insight that would be used as the grounded theory to answer the research problems. The
researcher read some theories which mainly discussed taboo, swear words and the language used and theories which talked about the methods used to conduct
research. As a result, the researcher could understand the types of swear words and the reasons for swearing.
3. Making Table of Analysis
After the researcher read some theories related to the topic investigated, the researcher made a table as the place to put conversations which used swear words.
The table was made before any analysis begun. Specifically, the researcher made the table based on previous study which also used a table to identify types of
swear words and why people swear. 4.
Deciding Data Source and Identifying Data After making the table of analysis, the researcher looked for data sources
for the investigation. This study used 21
st
Jump Street movie transcription as the main source. After that, the researcher started to identify conversations that used
swear words and put them in the table which had been made in the previous step.
