1. Data Gathering Technique for Pre-design Survey
The pre-design survey was carried out to obtain the data on need analysis which was conducted through classroom observation, interview, and
questionnaire. The observation was conducted in the classroom during the teaching-
learning activity. However, the writer did not involve and participate in the process of teaching-learning activity. The writer allowed the situation occurred
naturally while the writer observed to gain the data and information focused on. To obtain the data, the observation checklist and the observation note-taking were
used. Meanwhile, the interview was also conducted to gain data and information on need analysis. The interview was carried out in the form of structured
interview. This was presented to the English teacher of fourth grade students of Elementary School. Then, the questionnaire was presented to the fourth grade
students of Elementary School in the form of simple open-ended questions. It was conducted to find out the data and information toward need analysis which the
data were further used to design the instructional material model.
2. Data Gathering Technique for Post-design Survey
The post-design survey was conducted to gather the data on opinion and evaluation from the evaluator participants. It was achieved through questionnaire
and interview. The questionnaire was proposed to the evaluator participants; those were
lecturers of the English Study Program and English teacher of fourth grade students of Elementary School. The presented questionnaire was in the form of

open-ended questions and closed-ended questions. As mentioned before, the closed-questions of the questionnaire were presented by the participants’ opinions
and would be assessed by point of agreements provided. Meanwhile, the open- ended questions of the questionnaire were conducted to gather elaborated opinions
from the evaluator participants. The gathered data through open-ended questions as well closed-ended questions would play as the feedback and evaluation to
develop the material design model. Then, the interview was conducted to obtain more detail and complete data and information as the further feedback and
evaluation to develop the material design model.
