1. Instrument Used and Data Gathering Technique in Research and
Information Collecting
Here, the instrument used was questionnaire, while the data gathering technique was the distribution of the questionnaire. In gaining the data, the writer
distributed two kinds of questionnaire to the two different groups. The first questionnaire was distributed to the tenth grade students in order to find their
problems in learning listening as well as to get the data for the need analysis in determining students’ needs, interests, and expectations towards the design of the
listening materials. Another questionnaire was distributed to the English teachers of this school in order to know about the listening materials, methods, and
activities conducted by the teachers in listening class. Both questionnaires were written in Indonesian in order to avoid misunderstanding.
2. Instrument Used and Data Gathering Technique in Preliminary Field
Testing
In Preliminary Field Testing, the instrument used was questionnaire, while the data gathering technique was the distribution of the questionnaire. In gaining
the data, the writer distributed the questionnaire to both the teachers of SMA Dominikus Wonosari and the lecturers of English Language Education Study
Program of Sanata Dharma University. The questionnaire was aimed to obtain the opinions, feedbacks, comments, and suggestions for the evaluation toward the
design of the materials.
3. Types of Data
Table 3.2 presents the types of data used in this study.
