CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
A. Conclusions
Based on the findings and discussions of meaning and sentence realization variations of the English – Bahasa Indonesia ‘12 Years A Slave’ movie texts, there
are some conclusions that can be drawn, namely: 1.
Regarding to the meaning and sentence realization variations of the English – Bahasa Indonesia ‘12 Years A Slave’ movie texts in realization terms, it
can be identified that the translation techniques are divided into two types; realized and unrealized. There are 897 sentences 99.2 realized into TT
Bahasa Indonesia movie text and 7 sentences 0.8 unrealized to the TT. The unrealized sentences happen because the translator performs the
omission process and in this case, the translator does fully omitted or fully sentence elimination. Usually, sentence elimination occurs because there is
delimitation of time and space in running text movie subtitle to the readers. It can be concluded that most of the dialogues of the movie are realized into
movie or subtitle text. 2.
The meaning and sentence realization variations of the English – Bahasa Indonesia ‘12 Years A Slave’ movie texts of the fully expressed sentences
are divided into two parts, they are fully expressed sentences and partly expressed sentences. There were 837 sentences 93.3 realized in the form
of fully expressed sentences and 60 sentences 6.7 realized in the form of partly expressed sentences. The data prove that the researcher does not make
any omission of the words, phrases or clauses in a 12 Years A Slave movie
text. It is shown by the higher percentage of fully expressed sentences and for the partly equivalent ones, the translator also does some omission or
changes to produce appropriate meaning. 3.
The meaning expression of the target text that represents the realization of fully expressed sentences in meaning and sentence realization variations of
the English – Bahasa Indonesia “12 Years A Slave” movie texts are divided into four categories. They are fully equivalent, partly equivalent, different
meaning, and no meaning unrealized. The highest percentage of data analysis of meaning equivalence is fully equivalent meaning realization.
From 904 fully expressed sentences, there are 798 sentences 88.3 fully equivalent in meaning. 46 sentences 5.1 are partly equivalent in
meaning, 53 sentences 5.9 have different meaning and also 7 sentences 0.7 have no meaning or unrealized. The highest data on the table above
is fully equivalent in meaning. It shows that the researcher does not change any data and during the translation process, there is no new meaning. In
bilingual translation, there are lots of difficulties for the researcher, such as, the differences of grammatical systems especially in the translation process
from English into Bahasa Indonesia. Despite of those difficulties that the target language text viewers the Bahasa Indonesia movie text experience,
they are able to get the same meaning from the source language text 12 Years A Slave movie text.
B. Suggestions
Based on the analysis and the conclusions of the research, there are some suggestions which are presented as follows:
1. To the translator
This text is applicable to be analyzed in the translation subject. However, the translator should understand deeply about the material before they decide to
do a research. Delimitation of the research and the problem of the research that should be resolved by the researcher can be done if the researcher understands
deeply about the materials.
2. To the students
It is suggested that students should learn more about sentence realization and meaning variations. By understanding sentence realization and meaning
variations, the students would be able to translate texts by using the best strategy to get the most proper meaning. The students would also have knowledge about
translation technique and understand about both the source language and the target text so that they can produce a good translation.
3. To other researchers
Other researchers who want to conduct research about sentence realizations and meaning variations must be careful in deciding the category. They have to
qualify the theories to determine them so that their research findings will generate better results. It is because the researcher herself still found problems in this
research.
