good design that suitable for the learners’ and teachers’ needs. Besides, it was used to ensure that the product was a good educational product which is based on
the curriculum an the theory of learning. In fact, it was the last step of this research. By the end of this step, the reseacher had a final product that was ready
to be implemented in the class.
B. Research Setting
The research was conducted in SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta in the academic year of 20112012. It was started in the second and third week of July
2011 by doing research and information collecting. This research and information collecting was implemented through interviewing two English teachers of SMA
Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta and distributing a questionnaire to 73 seventy three students of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta. The students were science students
in the eleventh grade. The interview was conducted in teacher’s room meanwhile the questionnaire was distributed in the end of English lesson in each class. Then,
the researcher planned and developed the designed materials from July to January 2012. After finishing the designed materials, the researcher asked some experts to
evaluate the design. This evaluation was conducted in February to March 2012.
C. Research Participants
There were two groups of participants in this research in for the data gathering. The first group was for research and information collecting step. The
participants were fifty eleventh grade students of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta

in the academic year of 20112012. The students were chosen randomly. Here, the researcher only took the students from science classes. Meanwhile, there were
three science classses in SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta, and the researcher took all students in science class. It means that the numbers of participants were 73
students. It was aimed in order to gather the better or more complete data as the representative of the students. Besides, the participants for research and
information collecting step were two English teachers of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta. The teachers taught the eleventh grade students so that they knew
deeper about the situation and condition in that grade, related to the materials and the students’ characteristics.
The second group was the experts or respondents for field-testing step. Those were one English teacher of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta and two
lecturers from English Language Education Study Program Sanata Dharma University. The English teachers were the same as the participants in the research
and information collecting step. The researcher asked them to evaluate the product in detail. Their evaluation would come up in different opinions so that it would
help the researcher to revise and develop the product.
