answers to find the percentage of each answer. The interview’ result was analysed using descriptive data analysis. The researcher collected the answers then
concluded or summed up the answer for the revision step.
F. Research Procedure
In conducting this research, the researcher did the steps below.
1. Observing the School
The researcher did the observation by coming to the school to see the situation and condition of the school. The researcher also conducted an informal
interview with some English teachers there. The researcher interviewed the English teachers of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta on Friday, October 1, 2010,
in the teacher’ office. In fact, it was the informal interview and from the interview the researcher gathered the information related to situation and condition in the
eleventh grade students and the information related to English materials for them. By conducting that interview, the researcher knew that the English teachers of
SMA Pangudi Luhur needed a set of interactive reading materials for eleventh grade students in the academic year of 20112012.
2. Asking Permission
After knowing the problems, the researcher chose to conduct the research in SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta so that the researcher asked permission to the
school, especially to the headmaster. In this research, the researcher asked
permission to the headmaster of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta, on Saturday, October 2, 2010. In this step, there was an agreement between the headmaster and

the researcher related to the research, such as the method of data gathering in school, the number of participants, and other technical factors in this research. In
this reseach, the school asked the permission letter for conducting a research only from the university.
3. Planning the Research
The researcher determined the goals, listed the topics, stated the general purpose of each topic and stated the learning objectives.
4. Doing Learner’s Need Analysis
The researcher did the learner’s need analysis by distributing a questionnaire to the students as the participants. The students were 73 seventy
three science students in the eleventh grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta in the academic year of 20112012 who were taken in all science classes. The
questionnaire was distributed to the students in order to gather the data about students’ needs related to reading materials and students’ difficulties in English
learning especially in reading.
