2. The strengths of the collaborative English teaching program
To answer the second problem which was aimed to find the strength of the collaborative teaching English program from the teachers and students’ opinion,
the writer still referred to the questionnaire which was distributed on 8

September 2009. According to the forty students, the materials were fun, interesting, and understandable. Some students also stated that the collaborative
English teaching helped them improve their fluency, activeness, self-confidence and also speaking mastery. Since the students had to move from Stella Duce to
ELTI, some students felt happy because they could learn to adapt moving class system. The atmosphere of the collaborative teaching class was different with a
common English class in their school. The students could enjoy the class because they already felt relaxed with the classroom and the teachers’ teaching style. From
the result of the questionnaire, there were 72 of participants agreed that the class activities, teaching learning media and classroom atmosphere were able to catch
their attention to be more active in class. Besides, according to the teachers, the Collaborative Teaching English
could give the students more rooms for improving their speaking skill and also gave the teachers rooms for improving their awareness with teenagers. Since the
teachers should teach the twelfth grade students that enter transitional era from children to adolescence after passing puberty, the teachers could be more patient
and understand teenagers’ characteristic better. The collaborative Teaching English program also brought a big impact for students since this program could
help the students to be more accustomed in speaking English. In addition, this program also brought high motivation for the students to be more confidence in
speaking in front of public. That statement was proved by the result of the questionnaire data which shown around 67 of participants agreed that their self-
confidence in speaking English was improving after joining the collaborative English teaching Program.
