Students are able to: Identify the social function of recount texts.

A recount is a piece of text that retells past events, usually in the order in which they happened. The purpose of a recount text is to give the audience a description of what
occurred and when it occurred. The generic structure of recount text are:
1.
Orientation: inform the backgrounf information about who what, when and where. 2.
Sequence of events: It retells events: what people do? It tells the events chronologically. It uses conjunctions or connectives like: first, next, then,
finally, and so on. They show list of events. 3.
Reorientation: state the w riter’s personal comment regarding the events described.
The language features of recount text are: 1.
The use of past tense 2.
The use of conjunctions and time connectives to sequence the events 3.
The use of adverbs and adverbial phrases to indicate time e.g. last week, ago.
