The text has two speech act categories. Those are assertive and expressive categories through declarative mood type. It is clear that the text writer shows the
expressive category in the third sentence. The clue is the sentence ‘I’m really
proud ’. The speaker expresses his support. He likes Ahok as the leader. Then, other
sentences show the text writer’s assertive category. The text writer explains the fact of Ahok as the leader and how remarkable Ahok’s work. The text writer convinces
the readers to believe what he says.
16. Theme P: Shining a Light on the Dark Past
This theme discusses the issue on whether the state should apologize for the tragedy which happened 50 years ago. Back in 1965, there was an attempted coup
which blamed on the Indonesia Communist Party PKI and the subsequent mass killings of people linked to the now outlawed political organization. Responding
the issue, the readers of TYS column gave 7 opinions. From Table 4.16, the researcher finds out 6 assertive categories, 1 directive
category, and 2 expressive categories. The assertive category is still the most frequently employed speech act category. It is also still followed by expressive

The text only has one speech act category. The text writer shows his assertive category through the declarative type. The text writer asserts that the past can be a
guide to be better in the future. We do not regret the past situation but we must move forward to be better. It is clear that the text writer convey the information and
convinces the reader to believe what he says.
