Bandung really wastes the money. The text writer thinks that the project serving Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya is more attractive and logical. From his opinion, the
speaker convinces the readers to believe what he thinks. Therefore, it is clear that the speaker also shows assertive category. Then, in the last sentence, the text writer
uses his expressive category again. The text writer wonders about the project. He seems uncertain that Indonesia can carry out the giant project.

15. Theme O: Searching for Jakarta’s Leader
The issue discussed in this TYS is regarding the contenders on gubernatorial election in Jakarta in 2017. During this time period, former sports minister
Adhyaksa Dault had announced his bid to contest other candidates such as young businessman Sandiaga Un
o and the incumbent Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. The researcher found out that the readers of TYS column give 7 texts
toward the issue.

All of the texts use assertive category. Then, assertive category always accompany other speech act categories in the texts which have more than one speech act

16. Theme P: Shining a Light on the Dark Past
This theme discusses the issue on whether the state should apologize for the tragedy which happened 50 years ago. Back in 1965, there was an attempted coup
which blamed on the Indonesia Communist Party PKI and the subsequent mass killings of people linked to the now outlawed political organization. Responding
the issue, the readers of TYS column gave 7 opinions. From Table 4.16, the researcher finds out 6 assertive categories, 1 directive
category, and 2 expressive categories. The assertive category is still the most frequently employed speech act category. It is also still followed by expressive
