8. Theme H: Jakarta to Scrap Property Tax Next Year

Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama decided to spare the low- and middle-income residents from the hardship amid the economic slowdown. Then, the text writer gives prediction in the next two sentences. He explains the evidences for his prediction in the future. It is clear that the speaker convinces the readers to believe what he says.

9. Theme I: Light Rail Transit Construction Starts

Traffic has always been an issue for metropolitan cities, including Jakarta. To ease traffic in Jakarta and its outskirts, the government started the construction of the light rail transit LRT system. The researcher finds out that the readers of TYS column gave 15 texts toward the issue. From Table 4.9, the text writers use 11 assertive categories, 1 commissive category, 11 directive categories, and 12 expressive categories in its theme. Different from the previous themes, the researcher finds out that the speaker often uses expressive category to respond the issue.
