45 The following part presents the teacher’s reasons in applying the learning activities. The researcher divides this part into six parts based on the number of the learning activities presented before.

a. The Teacher’s Reason for the Learning Technique of Introducing the

Lesson The first is about the teacher’s reasons for explaining learning activities students were going to have. The teacher stated that he explains what learning activities students are going to have because he wanted every student to know what they are going to do in learning. In his opinion, when students know what they should do in learning they will not miss any information or activities in learning. The teacher also wanted students to be ready to follow the learning activities along with required tools or equipment needed in the learning activities.

b. The Teacher’s Reason for the Learning Technique of Comprehending a

Text For the learning technique of comprehending a text, there were several kinds of learning technique conducted by the teacher. All learning activities are employed to help students in comprehending an English text. The first activity was answering comprehension questions and composing interrogative sentences with WH question words. The teacher stated that these two learning activities have the same purpose; these learning activities aimed to help students to comprehend the text deeper. The teacher, therefore, took this purpose as his reason for asking students to answer comprehension questions and to compose interrogative sentences with WH question words. The next is about the teacher’s reasons for asking students to read the text 46 silently instead of loudly. The first reason is because the teacher prepared students for final tests; the teacher aimed to make students accustomed to situation of test where they are required to read the text silently. The second reason was a practical reason. The teacher asked students to read the text silently because each student has a different text to read. According to the teacher, it was impossible to conduct reading aloud activity since reading texts each student had were different from each other. The next is about the teacher’s reason for giving a different reading text for each student. The purpose of giving students a different text is to give opportunity not to work together with other students, especially when they answer comprehension questions. In other words, the teacher drove students to work and to learn by themselves. The teacher also drove students not to cheat other students’ work. The next is about the teacher’s reason for asking students to check the assignment they did by themselves. The teacher applied it simply because of the difference of the text and assignment students had. According to the teacher, by checking their assignment by themselves, students could have more understandable reason for their incorrect answer when they made mistakes in doing assignment. In addition, the teacher applied this technique in order to teach students honesty in their learning. In this case, the teacher drove students to be honest in checking their own work.

c. The Teacher’s Reason for the Learning Technique of Translation
