3. Respondents Comments on the Designed Set of English Listening Materials
The respondents were asked to give their opinions about the designed set of English listening materials. There were four questions in the questionnaire: the
overall comments about the designed materials, the strengths, the weaknesses of the designed materials, and the suggestions toward the designed materials.
All the respondents assumed that generally the designed set of listening materials was well developed, applicable and helpful for the students to develop
their English mastery. Moreover, the respondents said that the designed materials were appropriate for the tenth grade students of SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta.
However, they also stated that the materials still needed few revisions to become more suitable to be implemented in the first grade students.
4. The Strengths of the Designed Set of English Listening Materials
The respondents also mentioned some strengths of the designed set of materials. A respondent explained that through these materials, the students could
acquire new vocabulary, additional structure exercises, and broader knowledge as the learning experience. Another respondent stated that the material design could
give various atmospheres and could motivate the students. The vocabulary was helpful for the students in preparing the materials so that the students would not
feel stressful because of the new words. The other respondents stated that the materials had interesting topics, had clear layout, and also had native speakers’
majority of listening materials which could enable the students to get used to the native speakers’ speech. Moreover, the listening activities could assess students’
comprehension and provide various and fun learning activities.
5. The weaknesses of the Designed Set of English Listening Materials
The weaknesses were also found by the respondents in this designed set of materials. The respondents clarified that some of the materials were not clear
enough, had quite difficult vocabularies, too long and too fast for the tenth grade students of SMU BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta. Moreover, the material design needed to
elaborate more the integrated skills, especially on reading and writing. More activities to improve students’ accuracy also needed to be developed more. One
respondent stated that the explanations of language rules could be made simpler.
