Those suggestions will be used to revise the designed materials.
C. Discussion on the Designed Set of Materials Evaluation
This part discusses the result of the evaluation and the revision of the designed set of materials. Based on the table of the descriptive statistics of the
respondents opinions on page 70, the conclusion can be drawn that the designed set of English instructional materials was well designed and acceptable, with few
revisions to make design be better. The means ranged from 3,75 to 4,6. The medians and mode ranged from 3 to 5.
There were some revisions of the designed set of the English instructional materials for the tenth grade students of SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta based on
the respondents opinions, comments, and suggestions. The revision was done in order to make the designed materials better. The adjustments are as follows:
1. The writer added the activity in the step ‘Speak Out’, which was the whole class evaluation toward the students’ performance would be conducted by the
teacher as the feedback for the students. 2. In the language focus in unit 6, the explanation of language rules would be
made simpler to avoid the students’ complication of the materials. 3. The writer would change the inappropriate recording that did not match with
the written task in unit 7, listening 1 Small Talk: ‘Airport’. Besides the revision, the writer did not make any adjustments based on
the respondents suggestion because of some reasons. 1. Regarding the suggestions about the materials that should be integrated more
with reading and writing, the writer had considered about it before started to make the designed materials. The writer had checked the Syllabus from KTSP
as the guideline to design the materials. In KTSP syllabus, the listening skill was integrated more with the speaking skill. However, the reading skill was
integrated more with the writing skill. Moreover, in SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta, the English teacher consisted of two teachers. One teacher taught
reading and writing skill, and the other taught listening and speaking skill. 2. Concerning the suggestion about some listening materials the recordings and
the tasks that should be adapted with the capability of the tenth grade students of SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta and be careful with the complexity of the
materials. The writer thought that the complexity of a material can be handled by the capability of a teacher in the classroom to make the materials become
applicable to the students. Moreover, the teacher could change that complexity become an encouragement in order to make the quality of the lesson and the
students higher than before. For example, the teacher could reduce the speed of the conversation through Windows Media Player so the students could easily
comprehend the materials well. The speed could be adapted based on the capability of the students.
