CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the research findings and the discussion of the findings of the survey study and the designed materials evaluation. This chapter deals with two parts. The first part covers the steps of designing a set of instructional speaking materials using CTL for the second grade of language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The second part describes the presentation of a set of instructional speaking materials using CTL for the second grade of Language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta.

A. The Steps for Designing a Set of Instructional Speaking Materials Using

Contextual Teaching and Learning for the Second Grade of Language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The writer applied three major steps of instructional design in designing the steps of materials. The steps are: needs survey, developing instructional materials, and evaluating the result. The writer discusses each of the instructional design steps as the following:

1. Conducting Needs Survey

The writer conducted the research which aims at collecting the data from the respondents. The research was held in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The data were taken from the questionnaire and another data were obtained from the interview. a. The Needs Survey Respondents

The writer carried out the research from 30 September to 7 October 2006. The first data were gathered from the questionnaire taken from one class of the second grade of language program which consisted of thirty-five students. The second data were acquired from the interview with two second grade English teachers of the language program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta.

b. The Needs Survey Data

The writer gathered the first data about the respondents’ opinion in the form of open-closed questionnaire distributed to the second grade students of the language program. In this open-closed questionnaire, the respondents would choose the answer anchored in their opinion, still, they had chance to provide their own answer. The writer presented the respondents’ opinions as the following.
