C. RESEARCH PROCEDURES

In conducting the research so as to attain the expected results, there were some systematic steps or procedures to be done in this research. The following steps were as follows: 1. Getting permission to conduct study in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. 2. Doing interview with the English teachers and distributing open-closed questionnaire to the second grade of language program students at Senior High School to gain information about the students’ background and needs in English learning. 3. Collecting the open-closed questionnaires from the students of second grade of language program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. 4. Analyzing the data from the questionnaires. 5. Designing a set of instructional speaking materials using CTL. 6. Distributing the closed questionnaires and the original version of the designed materials to the second grade of language program English teachers in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta and English lecturers of Language Education Program in Sanata Dharma University. 7. Collecting the closed questionnaires from the second grade of language program English teacher in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta and lecturers of Sanata Dharma University 8. Analyzing the data from the questionnaires. 9. Revising the original version of the designed materials. 10. Presenting the final version of the designed materials. CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the research findings and the discussion of the findings of the survey study and the designed materials evaluation. This chapter deals with two parts. The first part covers the steps of designing a set of instructional speaking materials using CTL for the second grade of language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The second part describes the presentation of a set of instructional speaking materials using CTL for the second grade of Language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta.

A. The Steps for Designing a Set of Instructional Speaking Materials Using

Contextual Teaching and Learning for the Second Grade of Language Program in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The writer applied three major steps of instructional design in designing the steps of materials. The steps are: needs survey, developing instructional materials, and evaluating the result. The writer discusses each of the instructional design steps as the following:

1. Conducting Needs Survey

The writer conducted the research which aims at collecting the data from the respondents. The research was held in SMA Stella Duce 1 Yogyakarta. The data were taken from the questionnaire and another data were obtained from the interview.
