56 By decreasing her nervousness, the student automatically would try to boost their
confidence to speak more in front of other.
b. Team Work Skills
The researcher found collaborative learning contribution to students’ team
work skills. Team work skills contained many aspects related to the way the students work together in their group. The researcher found a lot of aspects of
team work skills in the students’ reflection papers. Many students wrote about
collaborative learning contributions they perceived by learning to work with other people, learning to behave when working with others, learning to be collaborative,
learning to contribute in the group, learning to help each other, and learn to trust other people.
“As I mentioned earlier that this was my new class and these were my new friends that I never worked together with. I realized that I had very
comfortable partners in my original class. Meeting my new friends, I got excited because I knew I will have different experiences. Working with
different people is not easy sometimes because we need to adapt each other and find the fun part to work together. In the beginning, I acknowledge
that I had a difficulty on working with them because we had different speed, different system, and different belief. As time went by, I started to
find the pattern and got very convenient working and laughing with my new friends
.” – Excerpt 42 In excerpt 42, the student implicitly wrote about collaborative learning
contribution on the way she worked and behaved while working with other people. The student also learned how to work and adapt herself through
collaborative learning in Play Performance class. In the end of the excerpt, the student wrote the result of adjusting to other members’ pace in working. The
57 contribution of collaborative learning was perceived by the student in term of
working with and behaving toward other people. “The other values is I can get relations with the others and try to omit my
trust issues. For this lifetime, I can only trust my inner circle and I have trust issues to everyone around me. But that is not good when seek to work
along with people. Because sometimes people will hard to understand you if you don‟t trust them.” – Excerpt 43
In excerpt 43, the student wrote about another contribution perceived when working with others in Play Performance class. He learned to trust other people.
In the beginning of the excerpt, the student wrote that he had problems in trusting others, including his peers. However, collaborative work with his peers in Play
Performance class made him realize that having difficulty in trusting people while working together with them was not too good. Therefore, the student wrote in the
first sentence of his excerpt that he tried to omit his problems in trusting people around him.
1 Understanding Others
Understanding others became one of the contributions of collaborative learning to
students’ soft skills development in Play Performance class perceived by the students.
“I really had a valuable lesson in working with new people. I now understand that everyone has hisher unique characteristics, unique ideas
and opinions, unique beliefs, and unique ways of thinking. And sometimes we are walking on different paths, we are thinking different strategy to
solve problems, we are arguing unsolved problems. I now understand that live in diversity is something that I cannot avoid and that is definitely fine
.” – Excerpt 44
58 “The other values that I implement to my personal life are about respect
and understand others. Through the activities in this class, I learn how to treat people with different characters
.” – Excerpt 45 The students stated that they understood about the others more. The
students understood about the differences that each person had in their group. In excerpts 44 and 45, the students mentioned about the differences between his
peers in several ways. From those differences, the students tried to understand everyone with their unique characteristics and how to treat each person differently
based on their characters.
2 Accepting Other’s Opinions or Comments
Other team work skills that the students obtained from the collaborative learning was
how they accepted other’s opinion or comments. Accepting other’s opinion could be in forms of being able to receive criticisms and suggestions, to
accept decision that had been decided, to learn making a fair and suit decision, and to follow
other’s willingness. Those forms of accepting other’s opinion skills were gotten by the researcher through analysing the students’ reflection papers in
Play Performance class. Those reflections could be read from these excerpts. “Then, the second thing that I learn is that nobody is perfect. Everyone has
their strength and weaknesses. In this play, I learned to fix my own weakness by doing every suggestion to me. I know that suggestions are
useful for my life and it can improve myself to be better than before. I also ha
ve to accept other‟s bad things. Eventhough some bad habits or bad things often appears, I am not afraid anymore because now I know how to
overcome those things .” – Excerpt 46
59 In excerpt 46, the student accepted the suggestion given by the other
members. “I become a friend who care to the others, can accept suggestion,
comments, and critique that can improve my competences .” – Excerpt 47
“In my group I worked with 16 members and all of them have different opinion about our group. When I want to share my opinion I learn not to
think as if I am the only one who correct and the others opinion are wrong. I also learn how to appreciate others opinion, when someone in our group
talk I tried to listen and think about that opinion. If the opinion or the solutions that they offer are better than mine I should tried to accept those
opinion
.” – Excerpt 48 In excerpt 47, the student stated that collaborative learning in Play
Performance class contributed to make her able to accept suggestions, comments and even critiques. The researcher also found that the student learned to appreciate
and to listen to others ’ opinion. The students who wrote excerpt 48 had the same
understanding with Johnson, Johnson, and Holubec 1984 that collaborative learning helped the student to resolve differences in a friendly manner as cited in
Lin, 2015.
3 Tolerance
Another contribution in students’ team work skills was about being tolerant. Their tolerance must be developed along their group work.
“Besides that being in the production team sharpen my senses of in being a human. I realize that the production team have a lot of things to do.
Therefore it make me learned how to tolerate others by listening each other and helping each other.” – Excerpt 49
The researcher found the contribution of collaborative learning o PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI

students’ tolerance toward others in several reflection papers. One of the reflection papers which contained the student’s tolerance was in excerpt 49. The
student wrote and mentioned that being in a team, she learned how to tolerate others.
c. Social Skills
The researcher found that a lot of students wrote about skills they used in interacting and connecting with other people, such as collaborative learning
contribution to their social skills, interaction skills, interpersonal skills, and learning communities. Another advantage of collaborative learning was it trained
students in the social skills that they needed to work cooperatively. Collaborative learning was student centered so it really developed the interaction skills of the
students. They perceived the contributions from the way collaborative learning made
them mingle with others, have good relationship with others, know with their peers, build solid and strong connection and bond between their members,
socialize with others, get more friends, interact with others, adapt to others, learn how to embrace, feel motivated, and cheer up for their members in the group,
support their friends who sometimes complaint, and have a chance to meet a lot of new people. The following excerpt contained those skills.
“It will automatically develop my socialization skill, cooperation skill, grow respect toward others and all other meaningful values of life and
more or less will also make myself a better person .” – Excerpt 50
