so I looked like did not make it on my own. Otherwise, my other friends who did not help me to make it she could answer the questions clearly. It
was annoying. Yes, I realized that my communication skill is so bad. That was true. But then I did not want the other thought that I was not
contribute to this event so I started to learn how to be communicative in front of other people. I started to be more communicative in front of
people. I started to talk clearly and explain the rundown on by one so it was clear. I was so thankful because it made my communication skill
improve
.” – Excerpt 36 In excerpt 36, the student wrote about her experience. It was when the
student tried to explain and introduce the rundown of the event for the play performance to her peers. However, the student felt the difficulty in explaining it
to others. It made her look like the student who did not work properly in her division and did not make the rundown by herself, where the fact was she made it.
It was because of the difficulty she had in explaining the rundown. However, because of the student’s experience, the student learned how to be communicative.
The student started to talk clearly and explained the rundown one by one. Collaborative le
arning in Play Performance class had improved the student’s communication skills.
1 Speaking Skills
Pandian, Cakravarthy, and Lah 2003, state that collaborative learning can gather the
students’ courage to speak up. Moreover, Osman et al 2010 find that students’ speaking skills are improved. The researcher found that the contributions
of collaborative learning to students’ speaking skills were varied. The students
stated the contributions were on pronunciation skills , student’s way in producing
54 loud voice, getting new vocabularies, speaking clearly, talking impromptu,
sharing opinion, having great articulation and becoming dare to ask questions. “Moreover, through this activity, I also learned many new vocabularies
and pronunciations in English that I may face later in the working world .”
– Excerpt 37 The researcher found that their speaking skills in getting new vocabularies
and pronunciations were improved in Play Performance class. “In the play performance class, I study how to talk impromptu about the
progress of our group. That can make me improve my speaking ability which is with no text or memo
.” – Excerpt 38 In excerpt 38, another student wrote about how their speaking ability was
improved along Play Performance class. The student wrote that it was because of the impromptu speech they did. They usually had an impromptu speech when they
wanted to present their group progress in front of others without even bringing text or memo. Collaborative learning in Play Performance class had contributed to
students’ speaking ability.
2 Confidence
Several students wrote about collaborative learning in Play Performance class which contributed to their confidence, especially when they talked in front of
others in the group and committee. Excerpts 39, 40, and 41 contained the collaborative learning contribution to
the students’ confidence. “Second, Play Performance Class also teaches me how to be confident to
speak and act in front of a lot of people. Although this is like a Public Speaking Class but in Public Speaking Class I only speak to my classmates
