Reckless Personality description a. Arrogant

Olive often underestimates others because he considers his friends and the other people as his enemies. He shows his dislike by speaking unpleasantly. He thinks that his opinion and his work are better than others.

b. Reckless

Murphy‟s theory of characterization 1972 stated that reactions of a person can portray the character p. 168. Olive is a reckless person. He enters Enishte‟s house without being invited. He shows his action obviously “I entered through unlocked door beside the stable, an as uninvited guest, might do to avoid happening upon an inappropriate scene, I stamped my feet and coughed as I climbed the wooden staircase to the living quarters.” 155. Murphy‟s theory explained that person‟s character is seen through the way the character speaks p. 164 . In this case, Olive‟s recklessness can be seen by his speech. Olive says “I‟m not afraid of possessing character and individuality, nor do I fear others bowing down and worshiping me; on the contrary, this is what I desire .” 398. Olive says that he is not afraid of having character and individuality in painting. His statement comes out from his mouth in order to defend his opinion because he has been caught that he has stolen the last picture and has killed Elegant and Enishte Effendi. Elegant has the opinion that having own character and individuality is a sin but Olive still wants to have it due to his interest in Venetian painting and his desire to attain their expertise. Alfred Adler, an individual psychologist, has a concept that each person has the freedom to create their own style of live and they are free to behave which is called creative power as cited in Jess Gregory, 2009, p . 79. As a result, he does not afraid of having character and individuality in his painting. He also will do something without caring about the risk.
