be produced by certain situation on an innate basis p. 52. On the other hand, Saberi Roy 2009 stated that anger is a feeling of displeasure and pain which
have negative social consequences. Olive does not like Enishte‟s reaction. Enishte begins to be fearful but he hides his fear by considering that what he is doing is
not contrary to the religion. “Your Enishte was murdered because he was afraid,” I said. “just like you,
he‟d begun to claim the illustration, which he was doing himself, wasn‟t contrary to the religion or the sacred book… this was exactly the pretext
sought by the Erzurumis, who were desperate to find an aspect contrary to the religion. Elegant Effendi and your Enishte were a perfect match for
each other.” 393 Olive is angry with Enishte because he is being humiliated by Enishte.
Due to his emotion, he directly confesses that he has killed Elegant. I thereupon confessed that I was the one who killed Elegant Effendi and
tossed him into a well. Yes, then he took me more seriously, but he continued to humiliate me all the same. How could a man who humiliates
his son be a father? 396
It can be summed up that Olive has emotion motives both fear and anger. He has killed Elegant Effendi because he is prejudiced person and he is scared if
Elegant is going to confess to Nusret Hoja‟s followers who can endanger the society of miniaturists especially for his career. He also has killed Enishte because
he is angry with him. Enisthe starts to be afraid of what he is doing whereas Olive is interested and enthusiastic in this project.
4. Olive’s Social Motivation
a. Olive’s Aggression Motivation
Aggression is the willingness to engage in physical and psychological acts of harm to control the actions of other people Franken, 2002, p. 213. Olive is a

tricky and reckless person. He deceives Elegant that he has buried Venetian gold pieces. He asks him to take it in order to give bribe. However, before Elegant
takes the gold, Olive murders him. “What is the money contained in?”
“There are seventy-five Venetian gold pieces inside an old ceramic pickle jar.”
The Venetian ducats made good sense, but where had I come up with the ceramic pickle jar? It was so foolish it was believable.
… Panicking, I grabbed a stone that lay beside the well. While he was still on
the seventh or eighth step, I caught up to him and struck him on the back of his dead with all my strength. 21
Irritable aggression is “attack or destructive behavior directed toward any object as a result of frustration, pain, deprivation, or any other stressor” Franken,
2002, p. 209. It means that people are able to attack and destruct others if they are frustrated, being hurt, and under pressure. Olive is being frustrated by Enishte.
Olive realizes that he is in a threatening situation. Enisthe realizes that he is the one who has killed Elegant. Finally, the best way he can do is murder him “At that
moment, it was of course the devil prodding me to drive that inkpot down with all my might onto his conceited old man‟s faulty brain.” 165. Then he looks for the
final painting by himself because Enisthe always refuses to show it. Enishte can hear Olive is roaming the room.
I could hear my murderer roaming around the room, opening the cabinet, rifling through my papers and searching intently for the last picture. When he
came up empty-handed, I heard him pry open my paint set and kick the chests, boxes, inkpots and folding worktable. 175
