Total Maximum Scores 69
The table 3.4. indicates that there are 69 total of maximum scores from each numbers of question in identifying noun phrase.
In the second instruction, the EFL learners also invited to render the noun phrase which they identified. As is mentioned earlier, the componential analysis
of noun phrase translation was based on monolingual Indonesian dictionaries, i.e. Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. The analysis was also consulted with an
Indonesian linguist as standardization of noun phrase translation. The table 3.5 shows the scoring criteria of noun phrase translation based on the content
structure, languages features and communicative competencies which presented in previous chapter.
Based on the theory of translation as mentioned in previous chapter, there are three components of translation assessment, structure competence, language
competence and communicative competence. In adopt that theories, the rubric is designed in lexical assessment refers to structure competence, grammaticality
refers to language features and suitability refers to communicative competence. Table 3.5. Scoring criteria of translating the noun phrase

Total score: 13 One of the aim s of the current study was to find out whether there were
significant differences in the acquisition of noun phrase by three different groups of Indonesian EFL learners. Considering the types of the data above, i.e. interval,
the differences in the acquisition of noun phrase were subjected to the Post-Hoc test. The Post-Hoc test is equivalent to the analysis of variance ANOVA for the
interval data. The one way ANOVA technique is used to test a hypothesis concerning the means of three or more populations. It is used to determine if there
is significant difference among three or more means Bluman, 2012 p. 631. The test also allowed one to know the exact locations of the significance difference.
The computation was conducted using a computer program, SPSS 17 for windows 7.
The significance level for the statistical computation was set at 0.05. If the sig. point was below 0.05, the null hypothesis that there was significant
differences of the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase by three different groups was accepted. That score confirmed that differences of the
developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase by three different groups are significant.
Another aim of the current study was to chart or to discover the developmental patterns of the acquisition of noun phrase by Indonesian EFL
learners. Three types of charts were generated; 1 the developmental pattern of PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
identifying noun phrase by Indonesian EFL learner at three different groups, 2 the developmental pattern of rendering the noun phrase by Indonesian EFL
learners at three different groups, and last 3 the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase by Indonesian EFL learner at three different groups. It
also means that the developmental pattern both identifying and rendering the noun phrase.
3.6 Trustworthiness
In this current study, the data were gathered at one point in time to describe the real conditions and determine the relationship between the variables.
The mixed-method result gave deeper information or trend about the developmental pattern. The writer could identify the developmental pattern of
acquistion of noun phrase in EFL students and get the deeper information about the differences at three different groups.
The data should be valid and reliable as well. The data can be considered valid if the findings relate to the constructs. In order to obtain valid data, the
instruments was designed based on the constructs. The validity was also ensured through triangulation. Triangulation is an attempt to map out or explain more
fully, the richness and complexity of human behavior by studying it from more than on standpoint Cohen and Manion, p.19. Triangulation enabled the writer to
gain multiple sources of information about the same phenomenon. The writer used written test item, and interview for data triangulation. The results were aligned
with each other. The results of the data gathering were also reliable. The use of PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
probability sampling also ensured that the sample represented the population. The use of cluster sampling made the results of the research reliable and generalizable.

CHAPTER 4 RESEARCH RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Introduction
This chapter presents the research findings which were used to answer the research questions, including the written test result and the statistical analysis
result. The result were derived from the empirical data obtained from noun phrase written test which consist of two types pre-modification and post modification of
noun phrase by the three different groups of Indonesian EFL learners: freshman, sophomores, and juniors. The elicited data were used to answer the two research
questions mentioned in the first chapter. The first research question concerns with the developmental pattern of
noun phrase acquisition in identification knowledge of noun phrase and the translation of noun phrase in each group. More specifically the developmental
patterns of noun phrase acquisition cover the following: 1. The developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase based on
the two types of assessment that include: 1 The developmental pattern of the acquisition on identifying the
noun phrase 2 The developmental pattern of the acquisition on translating the
noun phrase 3 The developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase both
identifying and translating PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
The two research questions are closely related. The answer to the second research question, i.e. the developmental pattern of noun phrase acquisition in
identifying and translation discover the significant differences in each group as the answer the second of research questions. As stated in the methodology
chapter, the level of significance is set at .05. It means if the statistical data show the point less than .05 it indicates there are significant differences, while the
statistical data show the point more than .05 it indicates there are no significant differences from different groups.
The analysis results are presented in the following order: 1 the developmental pattern of the acquisition on identifying the noun phrase, 2 the
developmental pattern of the acquisition on translating the noun phrase, 3 the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase both identifying and
translating 4 other findings that have pedagogical implications.
4.1 Research Result
The two important findings of this study are the description of the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrases at three different
proficiency levels and the differences between each group. The result of the study were obtained from both written test and interview. The first data were obtained
from written test containing 12 questions which consist of 2 instructions; identifying the noun phrases in a whole sentences and translating the noun
phrases. The written test was distributed to three different levels of respondents, they are the Indonesian EFL learner from three subclasses which consist of 157
EFL learners from six classes in the Sanata Dharma University. The result of the written test tells about the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun
phrases by Indonesian EFL learners. The second data were obtained from the developmental pattern on first research question and interview result. In order to
get this data, the writer interviewed 7 students. The result describe students’ real e
xperiences during the English learning processes. It also presents the students’ reflection and evaluation about themselves on the materials of learning the noun
phrase.
4.1.1 The Developmental Pattern of the Acquisition of Noun Phrase at Three Groups
As mentioned earlier, the current study investigated the developmental patterns of the identification knowledge of noun phrase acquired by Indonesian
EFL learners of three different groups. The target noun phrases were the sentences which related to accounting fields. The sentences consist of the determiner,
adjectives, the noun headword, the prepositional phrase, relative clauses, active and passive participles, to infinitives and all of those words cover accounting
fields. Meanwhile, in order to track the developmental patterns of the noun phrase acquisition, the study involved Indonesian EFL learners of different groups:
freshman, sophomore and junior. This section describes the findings of the written test result, including the
descriptive statistic calculation and inferential statistic calculation. A descriptive analysis was made to describe the percentages of mean score of the acquisition of
noun phrase at three different groups. Twelve questions in written test consist of PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
