Research Setting and Respondent

written test scores. The written test scores results is presented in bar and show the developmental pattern. In order to support the quantitative analysis, the second analysis process is conducted on the interview text result. The result of the interview are transcribed, explored and coded to describe the participants’ opinion and ideas. Then, the data are analyzed and interpreted to obtain findings. After the findings are summarized, the writer can use the statistical methods to interpret the findings obtained from the data gathering. The last step of data analysis is reporting the findings. The most important on the data analysis processing in this study is the scoring of EFL learners’ responses. There were two instructions which use to assess the acquisition of noun phrase by EFL learners under study. As such, the respondents’ task on written test were two-fold: 1. The EFL learners had to identify the two longest noun phrase in the 12 sentences. 2. The EFL learners had to translate the two longest noun phrase itself to Indonesian. In the present study, the scoring criteria on data analysis processing consist of two kinds of assessment. For the first instruction, the identification knowledge of noun phrase could be described based on their answers. The written test consist of 12 sentences and there are 24 noun phrases. The table 3.4 shows the scoring criteria of identification knowledge of noun phrase based on pre-modification and post-modification noun phrase form. Table 3.4.
