CHAPTER 5 CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Introduction This chapter aims to discuss the result of data analysis. It includes the discussion on the developmental pattern the acquisition of noun phrases, the significant differences in the acquisition of noun phrases at three different proficiency levels. It also suggest further research on the acquisition of noun phrase and the pedagogical implications of the research findings.

5.1 Conclusion

This study on the developmental pattern of the acquisition of the noun phrase by different groups of Indonesian EFL learners set out 1 to discover the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase by three different groups of Indonesian EFL learners, and 2 to find out whether there are any significant differences on developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase between the three different groups of Indonesian EFL learners With respect to first aim of the current study, it can be concluded from the discussion that the developmental pattern of the acquisition of noun phrase involve three developmental patterns of the acquistion of noun phrase which consist of the develpomental pattern of noun phrase identification, the translation of noun phrase, and the acquistion of noun phrase. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI With regard to the second aim of the current study, no significant different was observed in the acquisition of noun phrase by Indonesian EFL learners. It is, therefore concluded that; 1 as proficiency level increased, EFL learners knew more noun phrases, the majority of the noun phrases were identified accurately, particularly noun phrase pre-modification, while noun phrase post-modification were inaccurately identified, and 2 there were no significant different between the three different groups; freshmen, sophomore, and juniors in the acquisition of noun phrase although the percentages of result statistical data shows differences varied from each level. First, the findings suggest that the second language grammatical acquisition is very slow process as it involves a continuous process of construction. Second, the noun phrase modification tends to be acquired while the noun phrase modification by Indonesian EFL learners.

5.2 Suggestions

The reseach results are expected to give suggestions for further studies. The result of the current study on the developmental pattern of the acquisition of English noun phrase have revealed the patterns of noun phrase identification acquired by three groups of university students majoring in English language education. Nevertheless, further research is recommended to address some issues related to the current study so that a more comphrehensive understanding of the patterns of the acquisition of construction development in the acquisition of L2 grammar is reached.
