Total After identifying the type of errors, the researcher investigated the sources of the verb phrase errors made by the participants using Brown‟s classification i.e. interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer and context of learning. After getting the 28 sources of errors, the researcher explained them based on the evidence that was found by the researcher.

F. Research Procedure

In conducting the research, there were several steps that the researcher did. Firstly, the data were about what kind of verb phrase errors that students made. To find the data from the Public Speaking students, the researcher asked the permission to the lecturer and the students of Public Speaking class. After the researcher got the permission, the researcher collected the video of the performance of the students. Then the videos were analyzed to find what kind of verb phrase errors that the students made. The researcher took note about the verb phrase errors found in the videos. After identifying the type of errors, the researcher investigated the sources of the verb phrase errors made by the participants. The researcher found the possible causes that were visible in the participants‟ speech. After getting the sources of errors, the researcher explained them based on the evidence found by the researcher.
