BAB III METODE PENELITIAN
Metode penelitian sangat penting dalam suatu penelitian karena hal tersebut menyangkut cara yang benar dalam pengumpulan data, analisa data dan
pengambilan keputusan hasil penelitian Hadi, 2000. Metode penelitian tidak hanya berguna dalam proses penemuan ilmu pengetahuan, namun terlebih lagi
dalam mengkomunikasikan penelitian kepada masyarakat ilmuwan Noor, 2011. Penelitan ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional, yaitu
penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mendeteksi sejauh mana variasi-variasi pada suatu faktor berkaitan dengan variasi-variasi pada faktor lain berdasarkan pada
koefisien korelasi Suryabrata, 2011. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk
mengetahui hubungan antara work-family conflict dengan happiness at work. A. IDENTIFIKASI VARIABEL PENELITIAN
Variabel dalam penelitian diartikan sebagai segala sesuatu yang menjadi objek pengamatan penelitian Suryabrata, 2011 dan ditetapkan oleh peneliti
untuk dipelajari sehingga diperoleh informasi tentang hal tersebut, kemudian ditarik kesimpulannya Noor, 2011.
Variabel-variabel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut:
1. Variabel tergantung : happiness at work
2. Variabel bebas : work-family conflict

B. DEFINISI OPERASIONAL VARIABEL PENELITIAN
Definisi operasional adalah suatu definisi mengenai variabel yang dirumuskan berdasarkan dimensi atau indikator variabel tersebut yang mudah
diukur Noor, 2011. Definisi operasional dari variabel - variabel dalam penelitian ini adalah:
1. Happiness at work
Happiness at work adalah seberapa bahagia individu di tempat kerja yang diperoleh melalui evaluasi individu terhadap dirinya yang menekankan pada
aktualisasi diri dalam mencapai kesejahteraan. Happiness at work meliputi penerimaan diri, hubungan positif dengan orang lain, otonomi, penguasaan
terhadap lingkungan, tujuan hidup dan perkembangan pribadi. Happiness at work dapat diukur dengan skala happiness yang disusun berdasarkan dimensi-dimensi
happiness Ryff dan Keyes 1995. Dimensi-dimensi happiness kemudian disusun dalam konteks tempat kerja
sehingga skala tersebut dapat mengukur happiness at work. Semakin tinggi skor skala happiness at work yang diperoleh individu, maka akan semakin tinggi
tingkat happiness yang dimilikinya. Sebaliknya, semakin rendah skor skala happiness at work yang diperoleh individu, maka akan semakin rendah juga
tingkat happiness yang dimilikinya.
2. Work-family conflict
Work-family conflict adalah konflik yang dirasakan oleh seseorang mengacu pada sejauh mana hubungan antara pekerjaan dan keluarga saling

28 terganggu yang meliputi konflik berbasis waktu, ketegangan dan perilaku.
Work- family conflict dapat diukur dengan menggunakan skala work-family conflict yang
disusun dengan panduan skala yang dikembangkan oleh Carlson, Kacmar Wiliams, 2000 berdasarkan dimensi yang dikemukakan oleh Greenhaus dan
Beutell 1985, yaitu time-based conflict, strain-based conflict dan behavior- based conflict.
Semakin tinggi skor skala work-family conflict yang diperoleh individu, maka semakin tinggi juga work-family conflict yang dialaminya. Sebaliknya,
semakin rendah skor skala work-family conflict yang diperoleh individu, maka akan semakin rendah juga work-family conflict yang dialaminya.
C. POPULASI DAN METODE PENGAMBILAN SAMPEL 1. Populasi dan Sampel Penelitian
Populasi penelitian adalah keseluruhan elemen atau anggota yang menjadi sasaran penelitian dan merupakan keseluruhan subjek penelitian Noor, 2011.
Subjek dalam suatu populasi harus memiliki karakteristik tertentu, berada dalam satu wilayah dan memenuhi syarat-syarat tertentu berkaitan dengan masalah

karyawankaryawati yang bekerja di bidang Perkebunan di kota Medan. Sampel adalah sebagian dari populasi yang ingin diteliti Prasetyo
Jannah, 2005. Sampel yang diambil harus benar-benar mewakili populasinya Erlina, 2011. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawankaryawati yang
bekerja di bidang Perkebunan di kota Medan dan telah menikah.
