Those parts are Let’s Get Started, Let’s Do it Together , Let’s Play Together, and What Have You Learnt?. The explanation for each part is as follows.

1. Let’s Get Started

The first section deals with the preparation before entering the main materials. It consists of some activities that aim to stimulate the students to use their background knowledge to prepare them before discussing the new topic. The teacher asks the students to mention and write some words related to the topic being discussed. The teacher could also ask the students to sing a song together.

2. Let’s Do It Together

The second section deals with the main activities of the designed materials. This section contains the four skills tasks and activities. Most activities in this section are group activities, such as the group discussion that allows the students to discuss in group to solve problems. The group work is aimed to improve the academic and social skills. The students can help each other to gain the group’s objectives. There is also individual activity such as in doing the quiz. The quiz is aimed to measure each student’s understanding towards the topic discussed. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI 72

3. Let’s Play Together

The third section deals with the group game activities. This section is aimed to improve the students’ understanding about the related topic being discussed because the games used are based on the topic. This activity is also aimed to make the learning process to be fun and interesting. It also facilitates the students to enhance their social skills through group games. 4. What Have You Learnt? The fourth section deals with the students’ reflection on each unit. The students write down reflection about what they have leant through the unit and answer the comprehension questions related to the topic. By writing down their reflection and answering the related questions, the students can learn from their learning process and then they can improve their performance to gain better achievement. This part is the individual activity. This means that the students are hoped to improve themselves for better achievement. From the description above, it could be summarized that the designed materials had some strengths, such as well-developed, had various activities, nice pictures, and interesting. The results of the post-design survey results showed that the mean ranged from 3.8 up to 4.4 on the scale of 5.00. This meant that the designed materials were acceptable to be used for the sixth grade students of SD Kanisius Kanutan. The topics, the sections, and subsections are presented in Appendix I. The complete final version of the designed materials is presented in Appendix N. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI 73

CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter consists of two parts, namely conclusions and suggestions. The first part deals with the conclusions of the study. The second part deals with the suggestions that are expected to help the English teacher of the sixth grade students of SD Kanisius Kanutan and future researchers.

A. Conclusions

The study was to design integrated English instructional materials for the sixth grade students of SD Kanisius Kanutan. In this study, the writer formulated two problems. Those problems were 1 How is a set of integrated English instructional materials based on a cooperative learning approach for the sixth grade students of SD Kanisius Kanutan designed? and 2 What does the designed set of integrated English instructional materials based on a cooperative learning approach for the sixth grade students of SD Kanisius Kanutan look like? In the study, the writer employed Research and Development R D method. R D consists of ten steps, but the writer only employed step 1 up to step 5. Those steps are 1 research and information collecting, 2 planning, 3 developing preliminary form of product, 4 preliminary field-testing, and 5 main product revision. In order to answer the first question, the writer used an instructional design model adapted from Kemp’s and Yalden’s. The writer combined these two models to design the materials because the combination reveals a clear and PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
