Students’ Perception on Group Video

63 was the first experience in creating video project using English language. This statement resulted only 10 of the respondents disagreed that it was their first experience in creating video project using English language and 90 of the respondents agreed that it was their first experience in creating video project using English language. The group video project using English language was a new way for the respondents in learning English especially in practicing speaking. This new way made the respondents became curious and interested in creating the video because they wanted to try something fresh in learning English. Statement number fifteen was about the students first experience in creating group video project. Based on the 4.3 it showed that 20 of the respondents strongly disagreed and 33.33 of the respondents disagreed with the statement. 26.67 of the respondents agreed and 20 of the respondents strongly agreed with the statement. It was concluded that 63.33 of the respondents disagreed that it was their first experience in creating group video project and 46.67 of the respondents agreed that it was their first experience in creating group video project. Based on the percentage result, it was not th e respondents’ first experience in creating a group video project. The familiarity of the respondents in creating a group video project was useful in the process of creating the English group video project especially in the mechanism. Thus, the respondents would not find difficulties. The result of statement number sixteen presented only 3.33 of the respondents strongly disagreed and 6.67 of the respondents disagreed that the respondents were interested in creating video project with their group. There were 64 46.67 of the respondents agreed and 43.33 of the respondents strongly agreed that the respondents were interested in creating a video project with their group. Therefore, there were only 10 of the respondents who were not interested in creating a video project with their group and there were 90 of the respondents who were interested in creating a video project with their group. Based on this result, the respondents were easier in cooperating with the group in creating the English group video project and the result would be better because the respondents helped one another in the group. Statement number seventeen resulted 6.67 of the total respondents strongly disagreed and 13.33 of the total respondents disagreed toward the statement that the respondents found difficulties in creating group video project using English language. As many as 56.67 respondents agreed and 23.33 respondents strongly agreed that the respondents found difficulties in creating group video project using English language. It showed that 20 of the total respondents did not find difficulties in creating group video project using English language and 80 of the total respondents found difficulties in creating group video project using English language. Knowing that the respondents found difficulties in creating group video project using English language, it encouraged the respondents to practice speaking English more to be better in their English speech. In order to know the reasons from the respondents, the researcher also presented the data from the open-ended questionnaire. Based on the data from the open-ended questionnaire there were only 10 respondents 33.33 who did not find difficulties in creating a group video 65 project and there were 20 respondents 66.67 who found difficulties in creating a group video project. The respondents who did not find difficulties in creating a group video project mostly stated that it was quite easy because all members in the group cooperated one another. It showed that the respondents who did not find difficulties in creating a group video project could cooperate one another, therefore they could help each other in the group. The respondents who found difficulties in creating group video project also had some reasons. The respondents mostly stated they had difficulties in editing the video especially in arranging the video, not confident to speak using English, and they were difficult in pronouncing English words. The researcher concluded that those who found difficulties in creating group video project mostly not confident in speaking English and had difficulty in pronouncing English words. The difficulties could motivate the respondents to be active in using English in speaking and practice speaking English using group video project more often. In order to cross check the respondents’ answers, the researcher also used the data from the interview. From the result of the interview, there were three respondents who found difficulties in creating a group video project, they were interviewee 1, 2, and 5. The conclusion was that the interviewees had difficulties in pronouncing the words in English. Three other respondents, that were interviewee 3, 4, and 6 did not find any difficulties in creating group video project. The concentration and focus were the keys. Statement number eighteen related to the video project helped the respondents in speaking English resulted only 3.33 of the respondents strongly 66 disagreed and 13.33 of the respondents disagreed with the statement. Meanwhile, 66.67 of the respondents agreed and 16.67 of the respondents strongly agreed with the statement. It showed that there were 16.66 of the respondents disagreed that video project helped them in speaking English and 83.34 of the respondents agreed that video project helped them in speaking English. It was concluded that this video project could help the respondents in speaking English. It happened because through video project the respondents could practice speaking English more often than before and they also knew how to pronounce English words correctly. It motivated the respondents to practice speaking English more using group video project. The result of statement number nineteen presented there were 6.67 of total respondents strongly disagreed and 13.33 of total respondents disagreed that using group video project helped the respondents to improve their speaking skills. There were 60 of the respondents agreed and 20 of the respondents strongly agreed that using group video project helped the respondents to improve their speaking skills. Thus, from the result 20 of the respondents disagreed with the statement and 80 of the respondents agreed with the statement. Group video project could help the respondents in improving their speaking skills because through group video project the respondents often practice speaking English. Therefore, it could help the respondents in getting better pronunciation and also fluent in speaking English. Statement number twenty resulted none of the respondents strongly disagreed and 26.67 of the respondents disagreed related to the statement that 67 the respondents wanted to practice more after creating their group video project. There were 66.67 of the respondents agreed and 6.67 of the respondents strongly agreed that the respondents wanted to practice more after creating their group video project. It showed that 26.67 of the total respondents did not want to practice more after creating group video project and 73.34 of the total respondents wanted to practice more after creating group video project. The respondents wanted to practice speaking English more after they create their group video project because it was an interesting way to practice speaking English and it motivated the respondents better in speaking English. The result of statement number twenty one presented 6.67 of the respondents strongly disagreed and 46.67 of the respondents disagreed that the respondents became more confident to speak English after creating group video project. Other 46.67 of the respondents agreed and none of the respondents strongly agreed that the respondents became more confident to speak English after creating group video project. There were totally 53.34 of the respondents disagreed with the statement and there were 46.67 of the respondents agreed with the statement. The conclusion was that the respondents who disagreed with the statement were not more confident in speaking English because this group video project was the first project for them. The respondents needed more time to practice speaking English and also needed more projects to create the group video using English language. Statement number twenty two as the last statement in this category resulted 6.67 of the respondents strongly disagreed and 63.33 of the disagreed 68 that they were not ashamed to speak English in that group video project. Meanwhile, 26.67 of the respondents agreed and 3.33 of the respondents strongly agreed that they were not ashamed to speak English in that group video project. It showed 70 of the total respondents were ashamed to speak English in that group video project and 30 of the total respondents were not ashamed to speak English in that group video project. It was related to the previous statement that the respondents were not confident yet, thus it made the respondents were ashamed to speak English. Therefore, the respondents needed to practice speaking English more often. The researcher also crosscheck the result of the questionnaire with the data from the interview. Based on the interview results, there were only two respondents who were not ashamed to speak English in that group video project, namely interviewee 3 and interviewee 4. The respondents said that they were not ashamed to speak English in that group video project because they regarded as they talked with their friends but using different language. Four respondents who were interviewed were ashamed to speak English in that group video project, interviewee 1, 2, 5 and 6. Those four respondents said that they were ashamed because they were not familiar enough to speak using English language, therefore they were afraid if they made a mistake in pronouncing the words.

1.4. Students’ Perception on Cooperative Learning Group Work

According to Slavin 1995, cooperative learning is not only an instructional technique for increasing students achievement, it is also a way of creating a happy, pro-social environment in the classroom. It means that 69 cooperative leaning also helped students in cooperate with each other and also motivated the members of the group in the group work. The mean of this category was 3.0 that made this category in positive side. It was clear that the respondents had positive perception about cooperative learning group work. It could be seen from the table above, the statement number twenty three resulted none of the respondents strongly disagreed and only 13.33 of the respondents disagreed that the respondents felt more motivated practice speaking English with the group. Meanwhile, 70 of the respondents agreed and 16.67 of the respondents strongly agreed that the respondents felt more motivated practice speaking English with the group. Totally, there were only 13.33 of the respondents who were not more motivated practice speaking English with the group and there were 86.67 of the respondents who were more motivated practice speaking English with the group. It could be concluded that practicing speaking English with the group could be more motivated for the respondents. It happened because in the group, the respondents helped each other and appreciated 70 one another. The result of statement number twenty four presented 6.67 of the respondents strongly disagreed and 13.33 of the respondents disagreed that their group members helped them to speak English in the process of creating group video. 50 of the respondents agreed and 30 of the respondents strongly agreed that their group members helped them to speak English in the process of creating group video. It showed that only 20 of the total respondents disagreed with the statement and 80 of the total respondents agreed with the statement. It was beneficial for the respondents in finishing the group video project earlier with the best result because there were cooperation among the members. The result of the questionnaire also supported by the data from the interview. All of the interviewees agreed that their group members helped them to speak English in the process of creating group video. The group members helped them in correcting the pronunciation, the intonation and also remembering the conversation. Statement number twenty five stated that practicing speaking using group video with the group motivated the respondents to practice speaking English more often resulted none of the respondents strongly disagreed. Only 13.33 of the respondents disagreed with the statement. 73.33 of the respondents agreed and 13.33 of the respondents strongly agreed with the statement. The total respondents who disagreed were 13.33 and the total respondents who agreed were 86.66. It meant that almost all of the respondents agreed that practicing speaking using group video with the group motivated the respondents to practice speaking English more often. The result showed that working in a group could 71 motivate the member in getting the better result of himself or herself. Therefore, the respondents later on wanted to practice speaking English enthusiastically because their surrounding supported them. The statement number twenty six presented one of the respondents strongly disagreed and 26.67 of the respondents disagreed that the respondents became more confident speaking English in a group. Meanwhile, 66.67 of the respondents agreed and 6.67 of the strongly disagreed that the respondents became more confident speaking English in a group. Totally, only 26.67 of the respondents who were not became more confident speaking English in a group and 73.34 of the respondents who became more confident speaking English in a group. Those who were not became more confident speaking English in a group had difficulties to cooperate one another in the group, thus the members could not cooperate well. The respondents did not support each other and only focused on their part, it made the respondents difficult to built self-confidence. The respondents who became more confident speaking English in a group believed that the members of the group supported each other, therefore it was easy for the students in building self-confidence to speak English. The last statement in this category, statement number twenty seven resulted both of the respondents who strongly disagreed and disagreed that every member in their group had the same opportunity to speak English were 3.33 of the respondents. While 56.67 of the respondents agreed and 36.67 of the respondents strongly agreed that every member in their group had the same opportunity to speak English. It was resulted that only 6.66 of the total 72 respondents disagreed with the statement and 93.34 of the total respondents agreed with the statement. Therefore, the members could manage their parts well and every member had chance to practice speaking English.

1.5. Student’s Perception on Uploading Group Video Project in YouTube

The fifth category was about the students’ perception on uploading group video project in YouTube. The researcher related it with the theory from Brunner 2013, YouTube is authentic and offers rich multicultural contents that provides a unique insight into the target culture. The easy connection with other social media enables cooperation, for instance sharing videos and communicating when rating and commenting on video. The mean of this fifth category was 2.7, therefore this category was positive. The conclusion was, the respondents had positive perception on uploading group video project in YouTube. Further explanation about the result of each statement in this category would be explained as follows.
