divided into three parts. They are: Multimedia Materials, Manual of Multimedia Materials, and Classroom Materials. The manual of the multimedia materials serves as a guideline in doing exercises in the slideshow. It also serves as an answer sheet to the questions on the slideshow.

d. Selecting Teaching Learning Activities

The writer selected and developed the activities based on students’ needs and interests according to the results of the need survey. From the result of the needs survey, group work activity was ranked the first. Therefore, this activity was mostly used in the learning process. The students are also suggested to do the multimedia materials in group, so that they are able to interact and give feedback each other. Beside group work, the designed materials also covered the class discussion, pair work and individual work as instructional activities.

e. Evaluation

This step was conducted in order to know whether the designed materials were appropriate for the Speaking IV subject in English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University. The post-design survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to English instructors and conducting interview to students of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University. The evaluation covered some comments and suggestions from the respondents which were used as a basis to revise the materials. Finally, the writer would like to present a summary on the steps taken in the pre-design process. The writer started with conducting the pre-design survey by distributing questionnaires and conducting interview. The results of the survey research revealed that both students and lecturers of the Speaking IV subjects had positive attitude towards the integrated language instruction. They also had positive attitude towards the existing speaking classes. Yet, the students found some problems concerning mostly with vocabulary and uninteresting topics. While the lecturers found that the unprepared students troubled them most. The next step employed was stating competencies. In order to formulate the standard competencies, the writer referred to the academic curriculum of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University which was stated in Panduan Akademik Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris 2002. The writer referred to the existing syllabus of Speaking IV subjects in stating the standard competencies. Then, the writer listed the subject content and selected teaching learning activities and resources. The results of the pre-design survey were being a basis in conducting these two activities. The last step was evaluating the designed materials.
