C. Implications of Code-switching for English Language Learners
Since English code-switching phenomenons were proved exist, in this case translated teenage girls magazines, it could bring implications to the readers in
gaining knowledge of English. According to Ellis’s theory 1997 towards foreigner input, in this case was English code-switching in translated teenage girls
magazines, the implications could be in two forms, whether it supported the readers’ learning process or hindered their learning process.
In this study, the researcher indentified two kinds of input. The first was the grammatical input which could support the learning process of the readers. All
code-switching cases that were grammatical could become positive input that facilitates language learning. Since the input that was discussed was in written
form, the possible modification was the simplified forms. The second type of input that was called ungrammatical input also
happened quite often in the target magazines. This kind of input might obstruct the learning process. Otherwise, this input could also be uased as an alarmed for
the students to be more aware about English. In addition, the researcher classified some ungrammatical input into two classes. The first class was misspelled words.

The second class was inconsistent words. The examples below were phrases that were written inconsistent by the writer. Sometimes these words were
written as a single word while in other part these words were written as a phrase. This phenomenon is caused there is no pattern or rule that mention how to write
these words properly. The examples of inconsistent words were presented in Table 4.33.

The third grammatically error were nouns in form of plural which were written twice instead of adding ‘-s’ in the end of the word. The examples were

The other input that also had the possibility to obstruct the English learning process was the integrated loanwords code-switching. For examples:
i. signature style-nya
ii. di-attach
iii. diva attitude-mu
If those two examples of integrated loanwords were translated into the correct English, they would be:
i. the signature style
ii. being attached
iii. your diva attitude
Such cases of integrated loanwords code-switching might hinder the English learning process as they were grammatically incorrect.
After analyzing the implications of English code-switching phenomenon existing in Indonesian translated teenage girl magazines, it was found about
5.43 of cases were written inappropriate. It can give two effects, first for learners who are aware of that negative input could be a good alarmed to identify

63 if that words are wrong. Another effect, it potentially obstructed the English
learning process when the learners are not aware with that words. So, it will be very important to be more concern about English implementation in printed media
because indirectly influencing the readers especially English learners.
