4.2.1 Verbal Shifts from Non-Process to One Process
There are verbal shifts from non-process in ST into one process in TT, they are:
1. Indonesian version ST
English version TT ST 73:
Memek iri: non-process.
TT 73: She
thought jealously: Mental Process.
The Source Text ST does not have any verb, means that it does not have any
process because a process is realized by verb. So, in this case, I name it Non- Process. While, in the TT, the word thought is an irregular-past verb in the past tense
form based on the form in the classification of verbs in TL system English. It is an intransitive verb because it does not take any direct object based on the object in the
classification of verbs in TL system English. In SFL, it is known as a Mental Process because it has human participant she; the one who ‘sense’. It is categorized
as the thinking type of mental process. So, there is verbal shift from none process in ST into mental process in TT
based on the SFL. 2.

While, in the TT, the word given is an irregular-past participle verb based on
the form in the classification of verbs in TL system English. In SFL, it is known as a
Relational Process because it has an identity assigned to it, which means that one
entity the money is being used to identify another. It is categorized as the identifying-intensive type of relational process; where the identifiertoken is the word
the money and the identifiedvalue is the word school fees.
So, there is verbal shift from none process in ST into relational process in TT based on the SFL.
