4.3.1 Verbal Shifts from Group to Word
1. Indonesian version ST
English version TT ST 19:
Dengan bangga ia membalas teman- temannya dengan suara lantang:
Material Process group.
TT 19:
She exclaimed with pride: Verbal Process word.
The membalas dengan suara lantang is a group. The word membalas is a derivative verb because it is built from the affixation process me- + V that means do
something based on the form in the classification of verb in SL system Bahasa Indonesia. It is a transitive verb because it is followed by a direct object teman-
tamannya based on the argument in the classification of verb in SL system Bahasa
Indonesia. In SFL, it is known as a Material Process, because it expresses the notion

While, the word exclaimed is a regular-past verb in the past tense form based
on the form in the classification of verbs in TL system English. It is an intransitive verb because it does not takes any direct object based on the object in the
classification of verbs in TL system English. In SFL, it is known as a Verbal Process, because it is a process of saying that realized by two distinct clauses: the
projectry clause encodes a signal source she called sayer and a signaling exclaimed called a verbal process. it is a word only.

The membuat hancur is a group. The word membuat is a derivative verb because it is built from the affixation process me-+ V that means do something based

5.1 Conclusion
Based the analysis, the conclusion are drawn as follows: 1.
There are verbal shifts from one process in ST into other processes in TT based on the SFL, such as:
• From Material Process into Relational, Existential, Mental and
Behavioural process. From these shifts, the explicit explanation is found in the TT that is not found in the ST, which means that detailed explanation is
needed in translating ST into TT. •
From Mental Process into Relational, Behavioural and Material process. In these shifts, the contraction in the clauses is found, that is, the explanation
found in the ST is more detailed than in the TT. So, the ST has more detailed explanation than the TT.
• From Relational Process into Material and Mental process. In these shifts,
the contraction in the clauses is found, that is, the explanation in ST is
