translation in food and beverage product labels because it is very crucial in human daily life and to learn deeply about the strategies applied on the
translation of those product labels. There are 30 data which divided into 15 food products and 15 beverage products.
The amount of data is based on a filtering data in accordance with the theory of readability.
The theory of readability is applied to make the translation of those products are fully-understood by the readers. Therefore, the application of
readability theory of food and beverage product labels is very important in order to make the readers understand the translated-texts from English to
Indonesian. The strategies are also applied when literal translation does not work properly, and to make the translation process becomes well-arranged
and can be read by the readers.

C. Objectives of the Study
This study aims at observing the readability of food and beverage product labels imported. First, the theory of readability is to find whether the
translation of those product labels is readableor not readable by the readers by distributing the questionnaires for the students from different study programs.
Second, it also aims to find the translation strategies which are applied by the translators to translate those food and beverage product labels to avoid
the literal translation and to make the translation can be read, understood, and also looks natural.
D. Definition of Terms
There are some terms often found in this research. In order to prevent misunderstanding and misinterpretation on certain terms, those terms will be
explained first. They are Readability, Translation Strategy, Label, Food, and Beverage.
Readability refers to how people can simply understand the meaning
of a text Nababan, 1999: 62. In addition, readability is to show if the texts are readable by the readers or not. It can also be described as: The texts must
be fully understood by the Target Language readers.
Translation Strategy
refers to a translator’s way to translate a word, or a group of word, or even a full sentence if the sentence cannot be broken
down into smaller units to be translated Suryawinata, 2003: 67. It can also be defined as the process of transferring written text from one language into
another language in any references which can be translated.
Label refers to a word or phrase applied to a person, group, etc
especially one that is not quite true or accurate. It can also be explained as some words or phrases that is used to describe somebodysomething in a way
that seems too general, unfair or not correct Oxford 1995:658
Food refers to any substance that people or animals eat or drink, or
that plants absorb, to maintain life and growth Oxford 1995:457. Thus, food can also be defined as any substance consumed to provide nutritional support
for the human body. It is classified by grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, spices and herbs, and animals.
Beverage refers to any type of drink except water, for examples: milk,
juice, tea, wine, beer, etc Oxford 1995:103.
