A. Conclusion
From the research findings it can be concluded that graphic organizers improved the writing skills of students of Grade VIII at SMP
Negeri 5 Wates in the academic year 20152016. There were two cycles in which each cycle consisted three meetings. In the Cycle 1, the students used
graphic organizers in the pre-writing stage to generate their ideas before they started to write. In Cycle 2, the same treatment gave to the students

on the generic structure of recount text. The students can fill charts with the sequence of the text in details Therefore, the organization of their text
can be in the well-organized. In addition, the mean scores of the students’ writing increase
significantly cycle by cycle. Therefore, it can be concluded that graphic organizers could improve the students writing skills.
B. Implication
Graphic organizers improved the writing skills of students of Grade VIII at SMP Negeri 5 Wates in the academic year 20152016.
In the content aspect, graphics organizers help the students to generate ideas. Graphic organizers contain charts which can be filled by
the topics to brainstorm the ideas. When the students can brainstorm their ideas, they can generate them in order to write the text in the pre-writing
stages. Lee, Bopry, and Hedberg 2007 explain that the students will have a clear sense of direction when they are writing if they are writing if they
are using graphic organizers in pre-writing stages. In addition, charts of graphic organizers can help students organize
information. The students can fill charts with the sequence of the text in details. As Baxendell 2003 says, it is useful because it provide a visual
representation of key details and ideas. Therefore, the organization of their text can be in the well-organized.
