Conclusions CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

characteristics, 2 stating goals, topics, and general purposes, 3 stating learning objectives, 4 listing subject content, 5 designing the learning materials, 6 evaluating the designed materials, and 7 revising the designed materials. To answer the second problem of the research, the writer designed a set of instructional materials using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition CIRC for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. The designed materials contained eight units, topics, and titles. They are presented as follows. Unit 1 : What is Your Favorite Fable? Unit 2 : Snow White is a Fairy Tale Unit 3 : I Don’t Know Pourquoi Tales Unit 4 : What is Myth? Unit 5 : I Don’t Like Horror Movies Unit 6 : I Like Reading a Short Story Unit 7 : Tell Your Favourite Romance Unit 8 : Legend is an Old Story Furthermore, each unit consisted of five parts, those are: Let’s Think First, It is Time to Read, How to Say it?, Grammar Focus and Write Your Story. Let’s Think First was the pre-activity to create students’ interest, activate students’ prior knowledge and introduce the topic. It’s Time to Read was the main activity where students did the reading activity. How to Say it? was the part in which the students learned the suitable expressions in using language in discussion. Grammar Focus was the activity to learn grammar found in the reading text. It was needed in order to comprehend the reading text well and to produce a good composition. Write Your Story was the last activity in which the students wrote a composition after they got the model from the reading text. All the teaching learning activities on the designed materials were developed based on Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition theory. They were also supported by the theories of reading and writing. Based on the data obtained from the evaluation survey, they indicated that the respondents gave positive responses to the designed materials. The total mean of the designed materials after being calculated using the central tendency mean was 3.49 out of 4. It meant that the designed materials were well designed and acceptable for teaching reading and writing using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition CIRC for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta.

B. Suggestions

In this part, the writer suggests some points related to this study. The suggestions are intended especially for the eleventh grade students and the English teachers of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. Moreover, it is also suggested for future researchers who are interested in conducting the similar researches. The writer suggests the students to be active in the learning process especially learning integrated reading and writing using the designed materials. The materials were designed to enable the students learning reading and writing effectively. Hence, they should learn in groups actively to improve their reading and writing skills. However, the English teachers who will apply the designed materials play important roles. They should understand about Cooperative Integrated Reading PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI and Composition CIRC. It is suggested that the teacher read some books or articles about CIRC in order to be able to apply the designed materials maximum. The English teacher is expected to be a good facilitator who is able to place the students as the center of the teaching learning process. It means that the teacher is supposed to invite the students to be active learners especially when working in groups. The teacher is allowed to develop and adapt the activities. The developing and adapting the activities based on the students’ needs and learning condition is recommended. For future researchers, the writer recommends them to implement the designed materials because the writer only designed the materials and did not implement them. The future researchers could make some improvements to the teaching learning activities of the designed materials. These improvements need to be made because the learning condition and the students’ life style always develop.
