6. Evaluating the Designed Materials

After constructing the designed material, the writer conducted evaluation survey. It is important to evaluate the whole design so that any necessary adjustment can be made. In this evaluation step, the writer distributed the second questionnaire to the respondents. The respondents were two English teachers of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta and a lecturer of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University. The respondents were expected to give their evaluation and feedback on the designed materials. Then, the writer calculated the results using the mean as central tendency. Generally, the designed materials are suitable and relevant for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. 3 3.33 Note: N = Number of respondents Based on the result of evaluation survey, the total mean of the designed materials was 3.49 out of 4. It meant that the designed materials were well designed and acceptable for teaching reading and writing using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition CIRC for the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. However, the designed materials still needed revisions based on the respondents’ comments, suggestions and feedback. The writer also asked the respondents to give comments and suggestions on the designed materials. There were four questions to gain respondents’ comments and suggestions. The first question was about the strengths and weaknesses of the designed materials. The second question asked about the parts of the designed materials that need revising and improvements. The next question was about the suggestions to improve the whole designed materials. The last question asked the respondents’ comments about the overall designed materials. From the three respondents, the writer gained five points of feedback and comments. They were: a. The overall designed materials were well designed and acceptable. The overall concept and format of the materials can support the objectives.
