Attentive Natasha’s Characteristics a. Independent

58 for examples being a top and cleverest student when she was schooling, and getting big contracts for her company. But for her weakness, Natasha is not good enough at her relationship especially in getting relationship with a man. Once she met a man whom she thought good enough to build relationship and to be trust on, she has to accept the fact that he isn’t a good man for her. “She didn’t understand how she could be so good at her job and so bad at relationships. But then it had always been that way. She’d been top of the class at school, but it had been years before she’d had a proper boyfriend.” 181 Everyone definitely doesn’t want to be lonely that they will try to keep in touch every time they can do with their friends or with people close to them. Here, Natasha realizes that family, friends, even more a boy friend are important to her life that she wouldn’t feel lonely anymore.

e. Introvert

Natasha is an introvert person that she likes to keep anything for herself. She hardly shares her thoughts explicitly to others, even towards her parent and her best friend. She thinks that it will be better to keep anything she is facing into her own business. She does not want to burden others with her problems. Especially about her weakness in getting relationship with a man she loves. More over, she is also afraid that people will have laugh on her if she tells her private life explicitly. What Natasha thinks about her private life is obviously mentioned in the novel: “I know the feeling, Natasha thought. But no one ever would know that about her. Natasha had gradually stopped ever discussing her private life, so much did she hate the pity in people’s eyes at her perpetually single status.” 21 59 For Natasha being an introvert person, Sophie and others feel pity of her. They want to help Natasha solve her problems but they do not know what they have to do on her because she barely tells her problems and her private life openly. It is verified from what Sophie and other Natasha’s friend said about her. “She’d avoided discussing her love life foe so long, it was like speaking Vietnamese. But her need to talk over-whelmed her.” 154 “Lainey grinned. Everyone knew Natasha never had a boyfriend, and even she did, they would be the last to know, so unwilling was she to discuss her private life.” 114 Natasha is used to being an introvert person because she is not confident enough on her appearance and her skill to attract people on her. Actually she doesn’t like being compared with Sophie by others. She considers that Sophie is better than her in appearance and in holding relationship with others especially with men. She hardly sees her strength and good points on her that she is cleverer, more prosperous than Sophie, and as elegant as her. She doesn’t like someone examines and criticizes her life or what she does. “Tasha Live a little, girl. Come on Why can’t you be more like Sophie, living for the moment instead of always worrying about appearances?” “Sophie can dance,” Natasha said with a mysterious smile. “I can’t.” …. “I do enjoy my self,” Natasha said calmly. “I just don’t like dancing. So piss off Nikolai.” 90-91 Sometimes Natasha cannot enjoy the time when she is with her friends because she is used to being quiet. Therefore many friends of her rarely know her deeply. For example, when they played their favorite game If I were You, and asked about country which describes each person, they preferred that Natasha be described as Switzerland which was actually different from what Natasha thought of herself.
