c. Go Straight
The students are expected to ask for and give directions correctly. They will deal with some maps and conversations about directions. At the first part, the
students will watch a video and discuss the video with others. They will do some conversations practices dealing with reading map and showing some directions.
4. Unit 4: Describing Something
This unit provides some activities about describing people and personalities, describing places, and reporting news. The students are expected to
be able to describe some information which are commonly needed in their daily interactions. This unit is accomplished based on the English lesson syllabus for
Sekolah Menengah Atas SMA with the basic competence of comprehending basic expressions for social interaction. The more description of each lesson is
stated as follows.
a. He is So Amazing
This part is about describing someone’s appearances and personality. The students will practice some dialogues and make some groups. They will try to
describe their friends’ appearances and personalities. Moreover, they will listen to a song and complete the lyric correctly.
b. Lombok is Nice
This part deals with describing places. The students are able to describe and promote some places to be visited by completing this lesson. They will deals

with some tourism places. They will complete and promote their hometown to be visited in group work.
c. What is Happening?
This part deals with reporting news. The students are expected to report and share some news to their friends. They will learn about direct and reported
speech to support their understanding in reporting some news. The students will go to the library and search some news. They will report it to others.
The learning process in each unit is divided into three sections, namely pre-activity, main activity, and post-activity. The explanation of each section is
stated as follows.
a. Pre-activity
The section presents the introductions of the unit, such as the questions in the brainstorming sessions, pictures, and video. This part lets the students imagine
the topic and brainstorm their ideas through the media used. This activity takes around 10-15 minutes.
b. Main activity
The section presents the contents of the unit. There will be dialogues, the expression and some tasks related to the dialogues. The main point of this part is
the “Speak up” part, which assesses the students to practice their speaking abilities through the materials provided. They are challenged to collect information as the
main technique of this materials design through class discussions and individual

works. In addition, as the result the students are asked to present and perform such a role-play to measure their comprehensions of the materials.
