From the result, the researcher found that the students needed some teaching and learning activities which were dealing with group disscussions. By
having a group discussions, they could encourage themselve to practice English actively.
c. The Result of Interview
Another need survey conducted by the researcher was interview. According to the teacher, the students had a good enthusiasm for English subject
in class, yet the students’ basic knowledge of English was poor. The students could not express their ideas and participate in any class discussion especially
using English. However, when the teacher asked some questions in Indonesian, they actively answer the questions. The students were still confused in arranging
some sentences in English. Actually, the students liked the material which had relation with speaking and listening activities. However, the lack of vocabularies
and pronunciation mastering became the problems that most of the students had. In addition, there were 10 students of X-E class interviewed about the
difficulty in learning English. According to the students, they got some difficulties in arranging the sentences. It was because they had lack of vocabularies and
grammar mastering. They also stated that the teacher seldom gave them speaking exercises since they always got reading exercise. The class was so boring and the
activities were monotonous every week. They needed more interesting activity to encourage them communicate in English well. It would be beneficial if the teacher
used some kinds of media to teach the students.

Therefore from the need survey, the researcher found that the teacher did not use English actively in the teaching and learning process so that the students
tent to be spoiled to use English passively in the daily activity. Although they had sufficient time to express their idea, they rarely worked in class discussion and
presented their works in order to assess their speaking abilities. They got difficulties in expressing comments and opinions because they got lack of
knowledge in how to speak well. The teacher usually gave them reading assignment and seldom asked some presentation practices to comprehend the
theories. The students needed a kind of speaking materials design to encourage them improving their abilities in communicating and gathering such kind of
information. The students needed such kind of speaking module that was relevant to
support their performances and gain their confidence in delivering such kind of information through speaking. The students needed to act the language actively
everyday to form it as their habit in teaching and learning English. The teacher also expected, there would be a speaking module that was interesting enough to
motivate the students to speak better. The teacher needed materials which gave some chances for his students to practice speaking. Therefore, as the goal of this
step, the researcher concluded that the tenth grade students of SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta needed such kind of speaking materials module to facilitate them in
learning and practicing speaking. It was obvious that the teacher also needed speaking module in order to help the teacher arranging the sufficient materials for
the students.
