Post-Design Data Analysis Technique

41 Furthermore, in analyzing the questionnaire, the researcher gained quantitative data. The researcher recapitulated the data and calculates each response. The result was obtained by dividing the number of students, then multiplied by 100. Borg and Gall 1983 state that qualitative data were analyzed to yield frequencies and parentages of respondents checking each response category on particular closed-form questions. The data collected was calculated by using percentage as follows. Note: n : the total number of students who chose certain answer. N : the total number of students.

2. Post-Design Data Analysis Technique

In the field-testing, the researcher tested the product as the class teaching and learning materials. The researcher analyzed the strengths and the weaknesses of the product. In this case, the researcher used the questionnaire to gain comments and suggestions from the participants. The data was obtained in the from the respondents’ evaluations based on the questionnaires point of agreements. T he researcher used the Likert’s scale to analyze the model of the design for evaluation. The Likert Scale was a scale with a number of points, usually five, that represent a set of related responses, one for each point. However, the researcher just used fo ur options of agreement based on Likert’s scale in the questionnaires. The reason was to avoid neutral answer from the respondent. The following table presented the four options of agreements: n X 100 N 42 Table 2.1 The four options of agreements Points of agreement Meaning 1 Absolutely disagree 2 Disagree 4 Agree 5 Absolutely agree In this study, the researcher used descriptive statistical method to find out the validation of the data. Central tendency was regarded as the proper way of concluding the data because it represented the whole set of measurement. The measurement of central tendency or average was known as the mean, median and mode Sprinthal, Schumute, Gregory, Sirois, 1991: 114-115. Mean was the average point that was counted by adding all the points and divided them by the number or questions. Median was the middle point of the odd ordered data from the smallest point into the biggest ones or the average to the middle points from the even ordered data. The mode was the points that frequently appear in the data. The formula for getting the central tendency was: Notes: = mean ∑ = the sum X= each values in the distribution N = number of cases 43 The total mean from all the participants was used to show whether the materials designed were good enough. It was acceptable or not. The assessment of the mean was classified as follows. 1-2 : the designed materials were not appropriate and not acceptable 2.1-3 : the designed materials needed revision 3.1-5 : the designed materials were appropriate and acceptable The researcher synchronized the questionnaires’ result with the observations’ result to get the valid data. If there was a problem, the researcher had to tries to find the solution of the problems immediately and do some revisions.
