B. DISCUSSION
This part presented the result of the materials evaluation and the process of
revising the designed materials. The writer used the participants’ opinions and
suggestions in the post-design survey for making revisions and improvements on
the designed materials.
Based on the descriptive statistics result of the participants’ opinion on the designed materials, the writer found that the grand mean was 3, 95. The result
showed that the designed materials were appropriate for the sixth grade of elementary school students.
Based on the recommendations and suggestions above, the writer conducted some revision and improvement on the designed materials based on the evaluation
of the participants, so that the writer developed the better instructional materials. The revisions and improvements were written as follows:
1. Language As recommended by the participants, the writer changed the difficult diction
into simple diction to avoid misunderstanding task and instruction, and to help the student to understand the lesson.
2. Grammar The writer corrected any misspelling and inappropriate sentences to avoid
giving bad example to the students. 3. Lay out
To improve the lay out of the materials the writer minimized the color fonts, gave more answer space, and added the appropriate picture of the story to
help the students understand the story given.

CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter presents the results of the previous chapter. This chapter is divided into two parts. The first part concerns with the conclusions of the study, the
second part concerns with the suggestions.
A. Conclusions
This study was aimed to design a set of supplementary English instructional materials using short stories to promote the students’ values of life for the sixth
grade of elementary school students. There were two problems stated in this study formulated in the form of questions as stated in problems formulation.
3. How is a set of supplementary English instructional materials using short
stories to promote the students’ values of life for the sixth grade of elementary school students designed?
4. What does a set of supplementary English instructional materials using short
stories to promote the students’ values of life for the sixth grade of elementary school students look like?
In order to answer the first question on problem formulation, the writer conducted the pre-design and post-design survey. The steps of the two surveys are
adapted from the educational research and development RD and the writer formulated a model which was a combination of Kemp’s, Borich’s and Dick and
Carey’s instructional model. Kemp’s model was chosen because it was flexible. The writer could start from any step of the model. Moreover, Kemp gives a clear
