Snapshot
Seasons
For most places on earth, the year is divided into four seasons: summer, autumn, winter, spring. Each season has differences in weather, temperature, and amount of daylight.
pictures are taken from Microsoft Encarta 2009
Based on the picture above, talk about these questions with your friends. What’s the weather like in your city today?
What are the seasons in your country? Does your country also have summer, autumn,
winter, and spring? How is the temperature of the seasons above? How many degree celcius is it in average?
What about your country’s season’s temperature? What season is it now?
What’s your favourite season?
IT’S SUMMER. . . IT’S AUTUMN. . .
IT’S WINTER. . . IT’S SPRING. . .
Many leaves change color in the autumn Hot days of summer invite outdoor fun
A sure sign that spring has arrived is when plants produce flowers
It gets less direct sunlight and has colder temperatures.

Conversation
In the snapshot, we discuss kinds of seasons in the world, the weather, and the temperatures. Have you ever talked about seasons and its temperature in your class?
Here is a conversation talking about temperature and its relation to one of mathematics topics. Read and practice the following conversation with your partner.
Teacher : Good afternoon, students.
Students : Good afternoon, Miss Endang. Teacher
: All right, students. Do you remember what we learned last lesson? Who can tell me?
Andi : We learned about integers, but only a little bit,
because we ran out of time. Teacher
: Exactly. Last class we studied about integers. Do still remember what integer is?
Jinny : Positive numbers.
Teacher : Only positive numbers?
Fifi : No, positive and negative numbers.
Teacher : What about zero? Dharma? Is it also an integer?
Dharma : Ehmmm????
Teacher : Anybody remembers?
The students still keep silent Teacher
: Ok, now open your notebooks and find out whether zero is an integer or not.
Hee Suk : Oh yeah, I’ve found it. Zero is an integer.
It means that integer is a positive or negative whole number or zero.
Teacher : Perfect. Now, do you ever see a thing or a tool which
has negative integers, zero, and positive integers? Anybody knows?
Doni : Air conditioner.
Teacher : Very good. We can set the temperature of an air
conditioner. Anything else?
Fifi : A thermometer.
Teacher : Great. We can measure the temperature of weathers
using thermometers. Ok students. Today, actually, we are going to discuss
more about integer and its examples and symbols. Now, open your student books on page 34 and read it
first. After you finished, we will discuss it together.
