deliver the prominent ideologies of the society. The analysis was intended also to give descriptions of the text and the contexts. The descriptions included the contexts and the way they are related each other. The discussion was intended to find the resemblance of the discourse in the folktales with the discourse outside the folktales as the texts. In addition, the texts were also seen in their intertextuality. This was also to limit the discussion to some particular contexts. The intertextuality was observed through the similar theme of the stories drawn by the shared discourse topics. The result of this step was the description of the texts and the ideology found in the texts. The intertextuality was done also by mentioning some stories with similar topics and ideologies with the ones found from the macrostructure and microstructure analysis. 106

CHAPTER IV ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter contains the interpretation and the elaboration of the data accordingly to the nature of Critical Discourse Analysis. Since the purpose of this study is to reveal hidden ideologies in the texts, the discussion might highlight the ideologies supported by systemic evidences by the tools that have been discussed in chapter III. The writer divides the analysis and the discussion in three major titles namely Macrostructure Analysis, Microstructure Analysis, and the Discourse Practice. The Macrostructure Analysis is intended to draw the general meanings of the folktales. In this case, the general meanings are the major ideologies, that human being should be submissive to the customs and that human being’s life is dependent to supernatural power. The Macrostructure Analysis consists of the elaboration on the Plots Analysis and Topic Analysis. They will be elaborated in separated subtitles under the Macrostructure Analysis. The Microstructure Analysis provides evidences supporting the ideologies by the detailed linguistic units. It consists of the discussion of the transitivity of the clauses, the modality, and the attitudinal analysis. They are also discussed under separated subtitles. The transitivity analysis reveals the ideological meanings of the clauses by the processes. The modality presents the interpersonal meanings of the texts. The attitudinal analysis settles upon the choice of words in showing the judgements in the folktales. The Discourse Practice presents the implementation of the ideology in other societies and cultures. This might signify the evidences of the ideology that society members should obey the customs and that society employs the role of supernatural power in preserving the ideology. The discourse practice also fulfills the intertextuality analysis of Critical Discourse Analysis. The elaboration of the ideological implementation in other cultures is not conducted in the same manner with the analysis of the object of this thesis. Besides, the ideological conducts are taken from literary studies and excerpts.
