which the global meanings are possible to bear out. The topics are significant since they might influence the production of the narrative and further of the ideologies.
4.1.1. Plot Analysis
Plot analysis might reveal the main ideologies of the folktales in terms of the moral teachings and by
the main characters’ fate. The revelation of the fate is deducted from the causal relation of the events in the folktales. In other words the
fate of the main characters might be justified by the previous sets of events in the folktales. To some extent, the fates of the main characterstakes parts in delivering
the moral teachings to the readers. The fate indicates what human should or should not conduct in their life.
In relation to Critical Discouse Analysis, the folktales present opposing parties of power relation practice and plot analysis is able to highlight them. To be
clear, there are two groups of oppositions. First, the opposition is between human characters as a member of society and the society as an institution. In this case the
human characters are powerless in terms of obedience. Human characters should obey the customs set by the society. In addition, the customs should also apply for
any social statuses. Any disobedience to customs would lead the human characters to unfortunate fate. This opposition brings about the ideology that human being as
a member of a society should obey the custom at all cost. Interestingly, the delivery of the ideology is related to the second group of opposition.
Second, the opposition is also between human being and supernatural being or supernatural power. In this first opposition, the human characters serve the
powerless party before the other one. The state of being powerless manifests in the acts driven by human needs, desire, naiveness, and knowledge insufficiency. In
relation to the first opposition, those acts might present human disobedience to customs. In conducting those acts, human characters need and, sometimes, give up
to supernatural being or supernatural power. Those acts further leads the human characters of the folktales to despair or unfortunate fate. In other words, and in
causal relationship, the unfortunate fate of the human characters is due to their own acts. In addition, the supernatural being or power never fail or undergo unfortunate
fate. The folktales are developed by using three types of plot proposed by Booker
2003 namely Tragedy, Voyage and Return, and Overcoming the Monster. The elaboration of the interpretation of the types of the plot will be based on the nature
of the plots and the character development along the progression of the plots. The following table is the configuration of the folktales with their types of plots.

In general, the stories employing Tragedy are characterized by the characters’ eminent sadness in the end of the stories. In the The Tears of Empu
Mburing, the main character, Empu Mburing, underwent a typical sadness of being
separated from the beloved one and from the wealth. In the Siti Fari and Empu Rencak,
the sadness laid in the failure of the main character, Empu Rencak. His failure was followed by the separation of him and Siti Fari. In addition, Empu
