And so, to all the other peoples and governments who are watching

country is not that weak by having such spirit that underlines the policies made by the government to act upon those opponents. The verbal process in the second address is applied firstly with Obama as the Sayer. In the sample no.3, the Verbiage is the ―the words‖ which mean the oath of the presidential that according to Obama carries the same spirit with the soldiers who struggles for America and also one that brought by the immigrants who comes to America. Therefore, ―the word‖ as the Verbiage can also bring the value of Patriotism and Optimism. Now, it can be assumed that the verbal process is used by Obama to convince the citizens about the fundamentals with which his action will be based on later in the governance. In the sample no.4, however, Obama puts ―us‖ as the Sayer. This time the verbal process is used in the inclusive imperative which is marked by ―Let‘s us answer ‖. There is no Verbiage mentioned directly in this sentence, but the verbal process is enhanced with the circumstantial adjunct that brings the matter of common effort, common purpose, passion and dedication. In other words, Obama directs the citizens to act based on the shared history and for the common good. So, it can be said that Obama also uses the verbal process to speak about Utilitarianism . The third or the last minor process is the Existential process. There is only one participant in an existential process, the Existent. The Existent is simply that which is construed existentially. In the address, it is usually use to point at an existence of thing. Look at the sample taken from the addresses:

1. For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. 43, XII, a

2. Together, we discovered that a free market only thrives when there are

rules to ensure competition and fair play. 14, IV, b ‗Work‘ as the existent in sample no.1 shows that Obama emphasizes on the responsibility shared among the society. His statement is also strengthened by the circumstantial adjunct that is ―For everywhere we look‖. This adjunct emphasizes on the quantity of the responsibilities. Therefore, it can motivate the citizens. While in the sample no.2, the existential process is bound to a wh- relative clause indicates that ‗rules‘ is the pre-condition required for a thriving free market. The maker of rules is the government. This statement weighs on the role of government in making such regulation. Therefore, Obama indirectly states that the government holds the control over the American free market system. Thus, this sentence more or less describes the ambiguous value of freedom adopted in the American society.

2. Interpersonal Function

Based on the fact that language is used to interact, there must be an exchange of information. However, an inaugural address can be said as one way interaction in which the speaker is the most active participant and the audience remains passive and accepting. So that, Obama has higher chance to speak his mind and plays his social role more effectively and the audience have less chance to interrupt or even to confirm the truth of what has been said. Thus, it is true that the moment of address opens a wide opportunity to influence others‘ perspective about the things considered by the elected president.
